Job summary

Carrfields NZ is seeking a Trainee Research Agronomist to join our arable research team on the research farm and trial sites. You’ll contribute to plant establishment, irrigation, crop protection, trial work and harvest, helping ensure crops and trials are completed safely, accurately and on time.

You’ll work with farm machinery, sprayers and specialist trial equipment, while keeping detailed field records and adapting plans as weather and conditions change.

Qualifications

• Practical experience in arable farming or field work.
• Ability to safely operate tractors and farm equipment.
• Sound understanding of crop production and safe work practices.
• Current full New Zealand driver’s licence.
• Willingness to perform physical outdoor work in variable conditions.
• Good attention to detail and ability to follow plans.
• Willingness to work flexible hours during seasonal peaks.

Responsibilities

• Carry out seasonal arable operations including cultivation, drilling and sowing.
• Operate farm machinery safely and perform maintenance as needed.
• Support research trials from layout to sampling and harvest.
• Safely apply agrichemicals and other crop inputs with accurate records.
• Monitor crops, soils and field conditions; report issues.
• Keep research sites and stores tidy and safe.
• Support the wider team during seasonal peaks.
