Overview

We are currently seeking a highly motivated, skilled, and dedicated Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with demonstrated experience and interest in the public health sector. This is a full-time role based in Whangārei, forming an integral part of Te Whatu Ora Te Tai Tokerau's integrated Oral Health Service. This presents an exciting opportunity to be part of the ongoing development of the Oral Health Service in Te Tai Tokerau. The Oral and Maxillofacial service is an important and growing area of our operations.

The Oral and Maxillofacial services offered to the population have become an essential aspect of providing timely patient care and improving access to services that would otherwise require extensive travel. Qualifications

Applicants are required to hold a qualification that enables them to obtain dual registration with both the Medical Council of New Zealand and New Zealand Dental Council. FRACDS accreditation is preferred. Te Whatu Ora Te Tai Tokerau is also an Approved Accredited Employer by the New Zealand Immigration Service.

Te Tai Tokerau spans over an area of 13,789 square kilometres and is home to approximately 194,600 people. Northland boasts an abundance of breath-taking coastal scenery and exciting subtropical climates, making it a popular tourist destination. Visitors can explore popular attractions such as the Bay of Islands, Poor Knights Islands Reserves, and Cape Reinga, with a plethora of activities on offer, including beachcombing, hiking, fishing, and surfing.

Approximately one-third of the population lives in Whangārei, the main centre in Te Tai Tokerau. It is a 25-minute flight or 2-hour drive from Auckland. Surrounding Whangārei are smaller towns and rural areas scattered throughout the region making the population widely dispersed. Māori comprise around a third of the population in Te Tai Tokerau. A key focus of our service is to ensure equitable access to care for Māori and those residing in rural areas, to improve health outcomes for these individuals.

Hospitals

Whangārei is the main hospital, providing secondary specialist services. Additionally, the region is home to Kaitaia Hospital, Bay of Islands Hospital, Rawene Hospital, and Dargaville Hospital, ensuring comprehensive access to healthcare services for Te Tai Tokerau residents.
