Job summary

Higgins is seeking an experienced Operator to join our Construction Team in Palmerston North. You will operate a variety of plant and equipment, support civil construction projects, and help ensure work is completed safely and to a high standard.

Key duties include daily inspections, assisting with earthworks and drainage, and adhering to site plans and safety practices. A Class 2 licence and previous plant operation experience are essential.

About The Role

As an Operator, you will be responsible for operating a variety of plant and equipment while supporting the successful delivery of civil construction projects. Working closely with the wider crew, you'll play an important role in ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate construction plant and equipment safely and effectively.
• Complete daily pre-start inspections and basic maintenance checks.
• Assist with earthworks, drainage, roading, and general construction activities.
• Follow project specifications, plans, and site instructions.
• Maintain high standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and crew members.
• Support the wider team with general site duties as required.

What You'll Bring

• Full Class 2 Driver Licence (essential).
• Previous experience operating civil construction plant and machinery.
• WTR endorsements are advantageous.
• Strong commitment to health and safety.
• Ability to work well within a team environment.
