Job description

Operations Manager / Certifying Plumber | Auckland

Lead the day-to-day operations of a trusted Auckland plumbing business known for fast response times, quality workmanship and getting the job done right the first time.

Our client is a well-established Auckland plumbing business, founded in 2016 with a simple goal: to provide honest, high-quality plumbing services with a personal touch. The team works across Auckland, including Waiheke Island, supporting residential and commercial customers with maintenance, emergency plumbing, gasfitting, drainage, roofing, renovations, hot water systems and project work.

As the business continues to grow, an opportunity has arisen for an experienced Operations Manager / Certifying Plumber to join the team. Working closely with the owner, you’ll bring strong operational leadership, technical oversight and a hands-on approach to help maintain the business' reputation for quality workmanship, practical problem-solving and responsive customer service.

Reporting directly to the owner, you'll have the autonomy to manage the operational side of the business, while working alongside an owner focused on its commercial growth.

The Opportunity

You’ll lead a team of four plumbers, coordinate daily workloads, maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers and subcontractors, and provide the technical oversight required to certify completed plumbing work.

This is a genuine hands-on leadership role. While your primary focus will be managing the operation, you'll also be willing to jump on the tools when required to support the team during busy periods or staff leave.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor and support a team of four plumbers, fostering a positive, accountable and high-performing culture.
  • Schedule and coordinate reactive maintenance and service work across Auckland.
  • Certify plumbing work and ensure compliance with New Zealand plumbing regulations and industry standards.
  • Manage service work for residential, commercial, body corporate and property management customers, ensuring service levels and response times are consistently achieved.
  • Coordinate subcontracted or third-party service work where required, ensuring jobs are completed efficiently, safely and to the expected standard.
  • Monitor workflow, productivity and quality of workmanship.
  • Manage materials, stock and supplier relationships.
  • Support quoting, operational planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain high standards of health, safety and compliance.
  • Build strong relationships with clients and act as the key operational point of contact.
  • Step onto the tools when required to support the team during busy periods or planned leave.
To be successful in this role, you'll bring:
  • Current NZ Certifying Plumber registration with the ability to independently certify plumbing work.
  • The confidence to work autonomously, make sound decisions and lead the day-to-day operation with minimal direction.
  • Proven leadership experience within a plumbing or trade services environment.
  • Strong experience scheduling and coordinating field-based teams.
  • Experience delivering reactive maintenance and service work.
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • A practical, hands-on leadership style that earns the respect of your team.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A full, clean New Zealand driver's licence.

Experience working with body corporates, property managers and subcontracted service work will be highly regarded.

What's on Offer
  • $125,000 to $135,000 base salary plus a 10% performance incentive.
  • Company ute, laptop, phone and equipment
  • Annual plumbing registration fees paid.
  • A stable, well-established business with an excellent reputation and long-standing client relationships.
  • The autonomy to lead the operational side of the business while working alongside a commercially focused owner.
  • A collaborative, down-to-earth culture where your leadership and initiative will be genuinely valued.
