Job summary

Sunnytech Solar is seeking a Business Analyst to act as the company’s in‑house industry researcher and commercial analyst. The role will study the New Zealand and international markets for solar generation, LiFePO4 storage, EVs, and charging infrastructure, translating research into clear insights for management.

The successful candidate will build an evidence base from industry data and company records, benchmark competitors, and prepare feasibility studies and business cases for expansion.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in business analysis, economics, engineering, energy systems, electrical engineering, market research or a closely related discipline; or
• At least 5 years’ relevant professional experience in industry research, market analysis, business analysis or commercial strategy work, preferably within energy/related sectors.
• Strong quantitative and financial analysis skills including modelling in Excel or comparable tools.

Responsibilities

• Research NZ and overseas markets for solar, battery storage, EVs and related infrastructure, covering market size and pricing.
• Track competitors and distribution channels and benchmark Sunnytech Solar’s position.

Sunnytech Solar works directly with end-users as well as retailers, distributors, installers and business partners nationwide, backed by a professional local support team.

Job Summary

Sunnytech Solar is seeking a Business Analyst to act as the company’s in‑house industry researcher and commercial analyst. The successful candidate will study the New Zealand and international markets for solar generation, lithium battery storage, portable power stations, electric vehicles, EV chargers and charging‑station infrastructure, and translate that research into clear industry and business insight for the management team.

Key Responsibilities

• Research and analyse the New Zealand and overseas markets for solar generation, lithium and LiFePO4 battery storage, portable power stations, electric vehicles, EV chargers and charging‑station infrastructure — covering market size, demand drivers, pricing, technology direction, and the regulatory and standards environment affecting each sector.
• Track competitors, manufacturers, suppliers and distribution channels across these sectors, benchmark Sunnytech Solar’s position against them.
• Build and maintain an evidence base drawn from industry and government data, trade and import statistics, supplier information, published research and the company’s own sales, quotation and inventory records.
• Evaluate potential new business models and revenue streams, set out the commercial logic, capital requirement and risk profile for each.
• Prepare written feasibility studies and business cases for the management team, including volume, pricing, margin, break‑even and payback modelling, entry options, and a recommended sequence and timeline for expansion.
• Assess the supply side of any proposed new product category – manufacturer and OEM options, landed cost, minimum order quantities and lead times, certification and compliance requirements under New Zealand electrical safety and product standards, and warranty and service exposure.
• Gather market intelligence directly from customers, installers, retailers, distributors and industry contacts to test demand assumptions before capital is committed.
• Analyse the company’s current sales‑to‑delivery workflow, inventory control approach, customer enquiry and custom‑build quotation process and internal reporting, and form a considered view on where existing systems would need to change to carry new product lines.
• Work with the leadership team and department leads to develop practical solutions to organisational bottlenecks identified, and to set goals, plans and priorities for expansion.
• Put together written proposals recommending changes to procedures, adjustments to workflow and redrawing of role boundaries where new activities require them, and support the rollout of approved proposals by issuing revised work instructions, updating procedure manuals and drafting the supporting documentation staff rely on day‑to‑day.
• Report to the management team on a regular cycle through written industry briefings and presentations, and monitor the performance of implemented decisions against forecast, flagging where commercial results or operating practice are drifting from what was agreed.

Job Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in business analysis, economics, engineering, energy systems, electrical engineering, market research or a closely related discipline; or
• At least 5 years’ relevant professional experience in industry research, market analysis, business analysis or commercial strategy work, preferably within the energy, electrical, renewable‑energy, battery, automotive or related technology sectors.

Strong quantitative and financial analysis skills, including building cost, margin, break‑even and scenario models in Excel or comparable tools.

Good working knowledge of the renewable‑energy, battery‑storage or electric‑vehicle sector, including the commercial, technical, regulatory and supply‑chain considerations relevant to solar, lithium battery, portable power, EV and EV charging products.

Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to prepare clear research reports, business cases, proposals and procedure manuals, and to present findings to both technical staff and non‑technical management.

Sound judgement and discretion in handling commercially sensitive information, and the ability to work independently and manage research projects with limited supervision.

Location: Auckland.

Contract: Permanent, full‑time. Minimum hours per week: 30; maximum 40.

Annual salary: NZD $95,000 – $120,000.
