Job description

It’s rare to find an organisation with the foresight and capability to invest in emerging talent, especially in one of the most sought-after areas of engineering. But that’s exactly what Aurora Energy is doing.

We're leading the way in pioneering innovative solar, battery, and smart EV solutions to future-proof energy for communities across Te Waipounamu, the South Island. As one of New Zealand’s largest electricity networks, we operate in some of the most dynamic and challenging environments, Ōtepoti Dunedin, Central Otago/Wānaka, and Tāhuna Queenstown.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for two passionate and curious engineers to join the Future Operations and Operational Technology (OT) team in Dunedin. Whether you're a recent graduate or have a couple of years’ experience, perhaps through a graduate programme or internship — this is your chance to work at the intersection of IT, OT, and power systems, in a team that’s strategic, collaborative, and committed to innovation.

About The Role

You’ll be part of a small, dynamic team supporting and engineering real-time systems that underpin Aurora’s network operations. Depending on your experience, you’ll step into either a Support Engineer or Engineer role. Both offer exposure to:

  • Supporting, Configuring and maintaining SCADA and ADMS systems.
  • Monitoring system performance and ensure 24/7 reliability.
  • Managing user access and support real-time system operations.
  • Responding to network incidents and providing technical support.
  • Collaborating with internal teams and external service providers.
  • Support system upgrades and process improvements.
  • Integrate data sources and support AI/ML analytics

Who We're Looking For

We welcome diverse qualifications, think Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics with Maths, IT Infrastructure, and more. If you bring a systems mindset and a passion for operational technology, we want to hear from you.

  • A graduate with internship or project experience in electrical systems or automation, with a keen interest in IT/OT
  • Someone with real-world experience in the energy sector, ideally with exposure to protection systems and power systems
  • A PhD student or graduate with international experience, ready to start your career in NZ with unrestricted post-study work rights
  • Someone who started their career on the tools and is now ready to transition into an engineering role (with a relevant degree already completed)

What's in it for you?

  • Training & Development: Dedicated onboarding and mentoring to set you up for success as an Engineer in New Zealand
  • Future-Focused Culture: Work with modern tech, AI solutions, and cloud-based systems
  • Additional Benefits: Including increased Kiwisaver after one year of service
