Job summary

OceanaGold, a NZ‑based gold producer, invites applications for a trade-qualified electrician to maintain open pit electrical systems and HV equipment at Macraes Mine, East Otago. The role runs a 7 on/7 off dayshift and requires relocation if living outside the district.

You will report to the Open Pit Electrical Supervisor and perform preventive maintenance, fault diagnosis, and compliance with SOPs and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Formal electrical trade qualification and NZ registration are required.
• First Aid certificate and a valid NZ driver licence are essential.
• Current NZ work rights / visa are mandatory for this role.

Responsibilities

• Carry out maintenance, repairs, and improvements to electrical equipment in open pit mines.
• Diagnose faults and maximise plant availability during downtime.
• Maintain HV infrastructure including substations and switchgear.
• Repair and maintain lighting, generators and dewatering equipment.
• Document work and modifications for historical records.
• Attend pre-shift safety and toolbox talks; follow SOPs.
• Complete Stop and Think and JSA before tasks; support safety culture.
• Contribute to procedures reviews and equipment-specific SOPs when required.

Current First Aid Certificate

Job Description

Please note this role is based in East Otago, in the South Island. A relocation to the area will be required if living outside of the district.

Are you a trade-qualified electrician looking to start or build-upon your experience across the mining sector? If so, read on! Working under the supervision of the Open Pit Electrical Supervisor, this role will be responsible for maintaining all open pit mining electrical systems, and HV Mobile mining equipment to the appropriate regulations and standards. Working a 7 on / 7 off dayshift only roster, this is an exciting opportunity to work for New Zealand’s largest gold mine!

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Carry out maintenance, repairs, and improvements to electrical equipment in the open pit and general minesite

• Diagnose and rectify faults under the pressure of unscheduled downtime or power outage to maximise plant availability

• Maintain and fault-find HV infrastructure including substations, switchgear, power reticulation, trailing cables and HV mobileplant

• Carry out repair and maintenance on lighting plants, generators and dewateringequipment

• Record all work done and modifications for historicalrecords

• Attend pre-shift safety and tool box safetymeetings

• Complete Stop and Think and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) prior to undertaking tasks

• Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) specified for particular equipment or tasks and be involved in the development and review/revision of procedures whenrequired

Qualifications

• Formal Electrical trade qualification required

• Current registration with the Electrical Workers Registration Board

• Current First Aid Certificate

• Full and Current Driver Licence, ability to drive manual vehicles ispreferred

• Current NZ work rights / Visa is required for thisrole
