Blomfield Special School has a rare opportunity for a professionally confident and creative occupational therapist to join our supportive and dynamic specialists’ team.

We are a leading specialist school based in Whangarei, with a wide-reaching presence, currently through satellite classrooms in 6 mainstream schools, and a Transition programme for young adults aged 16–21. Our students, aged 5 to 21, are at the heart of everything we do - and so is our team.

We offer:

  • A permanent, full-time position with a varied and rewarding caseload
  • Term time hours (8am–4pm) with flexible holiday arrangements
  • A friendly professional work atmosphere and ongoing opportunities for Professional development and supervision.

We require:

  • A registered occupational therapist with OTBNZ and a current practising certificate
  • Experience preferred, but not essential, in working with children and young people with diverse needs, preferably in a special education setting
  • Skill in (or working towards) equipment accreditation, with the ability to apply for assistive technology through the Ministry of Education or Health
  • A confident communicator and relationship builder who thrives in team environments
  • Commitment to culturally responsive, strengths-based, student-centred practice
  • Passion about their own professional development and wellbeing
  • A Full Drivers licence.

The successful candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team of therapists, educators, and support professionals who bring expertise, empathy, and creativity to support our students. They will be professionally confident and up to date with evidence-based, current practices. Knowledge of Sensory programmes, OT Assessments, and PMP would be advantageous but not essential.

This is more than a job - it’s a chance to grow your practice, expand your impact, and be part of a school that truly values the people behind the work.

This position starts in term 1, 2026 or during term 4, 2025 by negotiation. Please apply by forwarding a letter of application and a current CV to jo.kaipo@blomfield.school.nz
