Job summary

Auckland Council seeks a Network Lifeguard Team Member to support lifeguarding, customer service, and fitness operations across Auckland leisure centres. This role offers a hybrid, part-time schedule with shifts across multiple sites and weekends.

Training is provided free of charge, and you will qualify through the Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate. A weekend day every week and a flexible daytime roster are expected.

Join Auckland Council’s Network Support Team, a unique hybrid role where no two shifts are the same. You’ll move across our leisure centres supporting lifeguarding, customer service, and sometimes recreation programmes, and fitness operations. You'll enjoy a variable schedule that allows you to work across different sites, supporting lifeguarding and customer support functions.

This is perfect for experienced lifeguards or recreation professionals who want variety, flexibility, and the chance to make a real impact in their community.

What you’ll be doing:
You’ll support our key areas, including but not limited to:

• Lifeguarding – Keeping our communities safe by actively supervising pool spaces and maintaining a safe environment.
• Customer Support – Welcoming customers, processing memberships and bookings, and helping visitors have a great experience.
• Fitness & Facility Support – Assisting gym operations, bookings, and keeping spaces clean and running smoothly.
• Recreation Programmes – Supporting activities, setting up equipment, and helping deliver fun programmes for all ages.

We will provide ALL training for you free of charge and will pay for you to attend the training to enable you to get your qualifications.

We’re hiring for a few permanent part-time positions ranging from 16 to 24 hours. You’ll work on a variable fortnightly roster between 5am – 10pm, including at least one weekend day, across sites such as West Wave and North Shore centres (Birkenhead, Albany and more). Our ideal candidate will be able to work one weekend day of the week and have flexibility to work during the day.

You’re someone who:

• Loves being active and working with people
• Brings strong customer service and communication skills
• Is reliable, mature, and safety-focused
• Can adapt to different sites and teams
• Holds a full driver’s licence and has access to a vehicle

We provide fully paid lifeguard training and cover the cost of your Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (PLPC).

You’ll just need to pass a pre-training swim assessment:

• 200m any style in less than 6 mins
• 50m breaststroke
• 25m sidestroke
• Duck, dive, and retrieve objects from the bottom of a 5m pool
• 5-minute tread water

If you do not have a current PLPC or first aid certificate, you will need to attend the training from 28th of September - 9th of October at West Wave and Auckland CBD.
