Job summary

Auckland Council West Wave is seeking fixed-term lifeguards for part-time and full-time shifts through 30 June 2027. The role offers a living wage of $29.90+ per hour, facility access, and pathways for development.

You will supervise pools, educate on rules, respond to emergencies, and maintain a safe, welcoming environment. Training for PLPC and first aid is provided, with a mandatory swim test and rostered shifts.

Qualifications

• Current First Aid Certificate required.
• Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (PLPC) required.
• Able to pass swim test: Swim 50m breaststroke, retrieve an object, tread water 5 minutes.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe environment through proactive supervision and positive interaction with customers.
• Educate and enforce pool rules.
• Respond to any First Aid emergencies.

Pool lifeguards are observant, patient, and good with people. Their skill set means they have the confidence to act in a quick, responsible, and calm way. No two days will be the same!

As a Lifeguard, you are responsible for:

• Providinga safe environment through proactive supervision and positive interaction with customers
• Educatingand enforcingpool rules
• Responding to any First Aid emergencies
• Ensuringour pool and the surrounding areas are always clean

We are looking for fixed-term part-time and full-time lifeguards till 30th June 2027

• 12-hour Monday 3:30-7:30 Saturday 5:30-2:00
• 16-hour Monday 4:30-8:30 Thursday 3:30-7:30 Saturday 8:30-5
• 20-hour Wednesday 4:30-8:30 Friday 1:30-10:00 Sunday 9:30-6:00
• 20-hour Tuesday 4:00-8:00 Wednesday 5:00-9:00 Thursday 5:00-9:00Saturday 10:30-7:00
• 32-hour Monday 8:30-5:00 Thursday 8:30-5:00 Friday 8:30-5:00Sunday 8:30-5:00
• 40-hour Tuesday 1:30-10:00 Wednesday 1:30-10:00 Thursday 1:30-10:00 Friday 1:30-10:00 Saturday 11:00-7:30

Please note that the shift is subject to change according to the roster and the needs of the centre, so flexibility is essential.

We are looking for strong swimmers of all ages, who are dedicated to helping others and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment. As a team member, you’ll need to stay alert, work well in a team, and provide excellent customer service.

You wil be an enthusiastic team player, you’ll have a positive attitude and infectious energy and be committed to providing your customers with an exceptional experience.

You will also need to have a current First Aid Certificate and Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (PLPC), and if you do not have them, we can provide training for you for FREE!

However, you will need to pass this swim test:

• Swim 50m breaststroke
• Retrieve an object from the bottom of the pool
• Tread water for 5 minutes

Moreover, you will need to attend the PLPC training from 28 Sept - 9 October, Monday to Friday, 8 am - 4:30 pm, at West Wave and Auckland CBD.
