Job summary

Te Awamutu Museum in New Zealand seeks a proactive Museum Administrator to join the Museums & Heritage Team. This varied role blends administration, reception, customer service, marketing and events in a community-focused setting.

As the sole administrator with a small team, you’ll manage bookings, respond to enquiries, assist with marketing initiatives, public programmes and provide general administrative support to ensure visitors have a warm, informative and enjoyable experience.

Qualifications

  • Experience in administration, frontline customer service, events, or a similar support role.
  • Strong digital literacy including confidence with Microsoft Office.
  • Accuracy and strong attention to detail, with a can-do approach.

Responsibilities

  • Reception and customer service (jointly with Museum Hosts).
  • Coordination of bookings and enquiries/research requests.
  • Contribute to marketing initiatives, events and public programmes.
  • Provide general administrative support for daily operations.

Are you an organised people-focused administrator who enjoys variety, creativity and being at the heart of a community focused organisation?

We're looking for a proactive and welcoming Museum Administrator to join our Museums & Heritage Team at Te Awamutu Museum. This is a varied role that combines administration, reception and customer service, marketing, events and day to day museum operations.

Surrounded by locations of cultural, historical and environmental significance, Te Awamutu Museum is kaitiaki to some of New Zealand's richest heritage, and we are committed to enhancing awareness and understanding of the history that has shaped the district and its communities.

If you're proactive, can work with a degree of independence and love variety this could be the perfect opportunity. As the sole administrator working alongside a small team of museum staff, you'll be responsible for customer service and reception (jointly with our Museum Hosts), assisting with customer enquiries/research requests, coordination of bookings, contributing to the coordination of marketing initiatives, events and public programmes, and providing general administrative support.

About You

We are looking for a professional and reliable individual who demonstrates initiative and can keep a cool head in a busy environment.

Ideally you will bring:

  • Experience in administration, frontline customer service, events, or a similar support role.
  • Strong digital literacy including confidence with Microsoft Office
  • Accuracy and strong attention to detail and the ability to follow through
  • An initiative, flexible and a practical 'can do' approach.
  • Experience in museums, tourism or local government, would be an advantage.
  • The ability to build and maintain strong working relationships; and
  • Above all, a fantastic attitude and the desire to provide our visitors with a unique and positive experience that showcases the stories and heritage of our district .
