Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, Whangarei Hospital, invites applications for Medical Laboratory Technicians in Microbiology. Two permanent full-time positions, 40 hours per week, with a 24/7 roster and rostered days off to enjoy time with family and the outdoors in the winterless north.

You will assist in receipt, documentation, and processing of specimens, plus related duties to ensure efficient pathology operations. NZ registration is required, and healthcare experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Medical Laboratory Technician registered with the NZ Medical Sciences Council.
• Basic computer literacy.
• Proven ability to rapidly learn new knowledge and skills.
• Understanding of health/illness and infection prevention.
• Previous experience in a healthcare setting.
• Ability to work well in a team.
• Recent microbiology lab experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist in receipt, documentation, and registration of specimens.
• Process specimens per policies and protocols, including referrals.
• Perform technical and operational duties to support pathology services.
