Job description

ROLE SUMMARY:

We are Petdirect, a fast-growing eCommerce and retail business that’s transforming the way New Zealand pet parents shop for their furry family members. As a digital-first company, we embrace technology and AI to work smarter and deliver a seamless customer experience. Proudly NZ-owned and operated, we’re a passionate team of PetSters dedicated to helping pets and their people live happier lives. We were also recognised as one of New Zealand’s Best Places to Work for 2025 in the medium business category, something we’re incredibly proud of and committed to living up to every day.

We are looking for a Merchandise Administration Specialist to help support the effective operation of the merchandise team with centralised execution of various merchandise functions. These include: supporting the new product creation process, coordinating new product ranging to stores, helping maintain and improve our product information and classification, checking promotional accuracy and helping to monitor and triage incoming store and customer care team product queries.

Retail is detail, and this role is highly detail-oriented. Ensuring product data and promotional details are set up correctly, and all customer-facing product or promo information is truthful and engaging, along with SEO optimised, is a huge part of this role. The ability to prioritise workload while still delivering great internal customer service to stores, the marketing and customer care teams is key to your success. We have advanced AI implementation throughout our systems and platforms, supporting the whole team to deliver best-in-class content, accuracy and efficiency.

This role is a 40-hour-a-week, 12-month fixed-term contract role, based onsite at our Avondale offices, working Monday to Friday.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Attitude is key in this role. At our core, we are a values-driven business. We seek individuals who embody our principles: those who stay hungry for excellence while remaining grounded. We value every person and believe in doing what's right. We appreciate those who act like owners and go the extra mile in everything they do. It's the extra 1% that makes a difference.

The key responsibilities of this role include:

Category Administration & Master Data Accuracy
  • Supporting the Senior Category Manager - Pet Accessories in accelerating our portfolio of home brand products; entering new home brand product details into our systems, leveraging AI tools to generate product content for the website, optimising product imagery and maintaining up-to-date information across home brand products as required.
  • Supporting the wider team with product master data updates in the event of new products or product refreshes across other categories as required.
  • Facilitate new product introduction to stores in line with our store product release schedule, updating store ranging information in line with deadlines to ensure new product arrives in store on time.
Promotional Support
  • Lead the promotional loading peer review process by checking future promotion setups to ensure they’re loaded on time, accurately, with key settings correct according to the master promotional plans and trading calendar details.
  • Support the team’s “live checks” on the start date of new promotions to confirm accurate execution and assist with fixing issues promptly or flagging problems to the right team members.
  • Coordinating the merchandise team submissions for the Retail Promotional Pack, ensuring store teams are well prepared for upcoming promotional activity with accurate, relevant information.
  • Supporting the loading of temporary promotional store stock levels where required.
Internal Customer Support
  • Monitor internal communications from our store and our customer care teams, triage the queries and comments, solve simple issues or questions and tag the relevant colleagues where necessary to help ensure a high service level for our customer-facing teams.
  • Assist with master data administration as required to correct or update product or store ranging information etc. as requests or corrections arise.
  • General support of cross-functional projects & initiatives, queries & requests across the wider business including Marketing, Supply Chain, Customer Care, Retail Operations and the Warehouses
Systems, Process Management & Other Requirements
  • Use Petdirect’s systems and processes to maintain accuracy, reduce manual touchpoints, and support continuous improvement.
  • Maintain accurate digital records, following document control, naming conventions, and workflows.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying process efficiencies in product setup, promotional workflows, and category operations.
  • Plus any other tasks as reasonably required within the role.
WHO YOU ARE:
  • Tech-savvy and confident using automation and digital tools to streamline processes.
  • Detail-oriented with high standards for accuracy and quality.
  • Proactive, resourceful, and always looking for smarter ways to work.
  • Highly organised, comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • A strong communicator who enjoys collaborating across teams.
  • Positive, adaptable, and motivated by continuous learning and improvement.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Strong data accuracy skills with proven experience managing product setup, pricing, or master data.
  • Confidence in learning new systems, experience using Google Workspace, Microsoft Office and AI tools is advantageous.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • An analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and work with detail while understanding the broader context.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships and collaborate well across teams.
