About the role

Our Biochemistry & Immunology department is looking for an enthusiastic and competent Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team in Auckland. This is a fixed-term, full-time position, working 80 hours per fortnight. This job will predominantly be a Biochemistry Technician role with cross-training in the Immunology section for the long term.

The department is multifaceted, providing a broad range of diagnostic testing, including clinical biochemistry assays, infectious serology, and autoimmune panels. You will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology and contribute to essential diagnostic services that support patient care across diverse specialties.

Responsibilities
  • Perform a wide range of diagnostic tests in biochemistry and immunology, including clinical chemistry, infectious serology, and autoimmune assays.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and high-quality test results in accordance with laboratory standards and protocols.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot advanced laboratory instrumentation and technology.
  • Participate in quality control and quality assurance processes.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records in compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff and other laboratory team members to support patient diagnosis and treatment.
  • Follow health and safety protocols to maintain a safe laboratory environment.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the department.
About you

To be successful in this role you need to have:

  • Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand as a Medical Laboratory Technician, along with a current Annual Practising Certificate is essential.
  • Works methodically and consistently, adhering to strict quality and safety procedures to ensure reliable and accurate test results.
  • Thrive in a team-oriented environment, demonstrating initiative, excellent communication skills, and the ability to perform well under pressure in a fast-paced, deadline-driven setting.
  • Possesses a solid understanding of laboratory operations, including quality assurance processes, safe handling of equipment, and practical hands-on experience in both biochemistry and immunology testing.
  • Flexible and available to work rostered and rotating weekends and evenings, understanding that these shifts attract penalty rates.
  • Eligibility to work in New Zealand
