Job summary

Awanui Labs - Timaru seeks a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Technician to join our core laboratory in a permanent part-time role, 24 hours per fortnight. The role involves a 24/7 rotating roster across Haematology, Chemistry, Blood bank and Microbiology, with emphasis on accuracy and customer service.

You will work both independently and as part of a team, ensuring high-quality results and compliance with safety and procedural standards.

Qualifications

• Strong teamwork and communication in a fast-paced lab
• Excellent attention to detail and accurate record-keeping
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practising Certificate as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Technician

Responsibilities

• Conduct laboratory work across Haematology, Chemistry, Blood bank, and Microbiology
• Participate in on-call duties and weekend work as required
• Enter patient/test information accurately into laboratory systems
• Answer enquiries from clients professionally and maintain high service standards
• Support daily lab operations while maintaining quality and safety procedures
• Learn new skills and adapt to changing protocols
