Job description

Jora New Zealand will close on 9th September 2026. Thank you for being with us, we are cheering you on as you continue your career journey.

Christchurch based | Mechanical infrastructure projects | Build your project-delivery career

Are you a mechanically minded Engineer who enjoys seeing how things come together in the real world?

Seipp is looking for a Mechanical Project Engineer to help plan and deliver mechanical works across water, wastewater and infrastructure projects. This is a hands-on project-delivery role that will take you from design and constructability review through procurement, fabrication, installation, testing, commissioning and handover.

We recognise that this is a broad role. You may already be an experienced Project Engineer ready to take ownership of complex mechanical work packages, or you may be an Engineer who has built strong practical experience and is ready to step up.

Either way, we are interested in what you can bring now and where you are capable of growing. You will work closely with our General Manager – Mechanical and an experienced delivery team, with support to strengthen your project, commercial and technical capability.

What you’ll be doing

You will help turn mechanical designs and technical requirements into safe, practical and well-planned project delivery. Your work will include:

  • Reviewing drawings, specifications and designs with a focus on constructability, safety and commissioning
  • Planning mechanical work packages, procurement, mobilisation and installation activities
  • Coordinating materials, equipment, suppliers, subcontractors and specialist services
  • Supporting workshop and site teams with clear technical information and practical solutions
  • Managing technical queries, design changes and project documentation
  • Monitoring programme, costs, procurement commitments and emerging project risks
  • Coordinating quality assurance, testing, commissioning and handover requirementsWorking across mechanical, civil, electrical and process interfaces
  • Building strong working relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers and delivery teams
What you’ll bring

You will be practical, organized and comfortable taking ownership of work through to completion. You will also bring:

  • A mechanical engineering qualification, a closely related qualification, or strong relevant trade and project-delivery experience
  • Experience within mechanical engineering, fabrication, construction or project delivery
  • The ability to understand mechanical drawings, specifications and technical information
  • Sound practical judgement and an interest in how systems will be procured, fabricated, installed, tested and maintained
  • Strong planning, coordination and problem-solving skills
  • Clear communication and the confidence to raise technical, commercial or programme risks early
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively with both technical and site-based teams
  • A genuine commitment to safe, high-quality project delivery

Experience in water, wastewater, pumping, piping, process systems, fabrication or infrastructure delivery would be valuable. Exposure to procurement, programming, commercial management, 3D modelling, shop drawings or commissioning would also be an advantage.

You do not need to have mastered every aspect of the position. If you have a strong mechanical foundation, practical delivery experience and the drive to develop into a broader project-engineering role, we would like to hear from you.

Why Seipp?

Seipp is a growing infrastructure business delivering work that makes a real difference to people and communities. We are known for taking on technically challenging projects and finding practical ways to deliver them safely and well.

This role offers:

  • The opportunity to grow your technical, commercial and project-management capability
  • A team that values safety, encouragement, innovation, professionalism and purposeful work
  • A genuine pathway to take on greater project ownership as your experience grows

The role is based in Christchurch, with some travel and work away from home required depending on project needs.

If this sounds like the next step in your engineering career, even if you do not meet every requirement listed, we encourage you to tell us about your relevant experience, practical strengths and where you want to grow.
