Job description

Jora New Zealand will close on 9th September 2026. Thank you for being with us, we are cheering you on as you continue your career journey.

Mechanical Engineer - Overhaul Operations

We're looking for a Mechanical Engineer with several years of industry experience who enjoys solving practical engineering problems and wants broad exposure across technical, operational, and commercial aspects of a growing engineering business.

As part of our highly skilled gas turbine Overhaul & Repair team, you'll play a key role in supporting overhaul programmes, component repairs, tooling improvements, technical investigations, project planning, and operational problem-solving. You'll work closely with experienced engineers and business leaders while taking ownership of your own projects and technical deliverables.

This is an ideal opportunity for an engineer who has developed a solid technical foundation and is ready for a role with greater variety, autonomy, and influence.

Why this role is different

Work directly on real gas turbine overhaul and repair projects

Take ownership of engineering activities that have a visible impact on customer outcomes

Gain exposure across technical, operational, and commercial engineering functions

Collaborate closely with senior technical leaders and decision-makers

Contribute to continuous improvement and capability development within a growing business

Opportunity for international exposure across New Zealand, Australia, and Canada

Your mission – should you choose to accept it

Here, you won’t be locked in to just one area. At Rotation, you’ll be supported by experienced engineers and leaders, with structured guidance as you grow your capability across:

  • Support sales engineering with technical inputs and parts pricing
  • Assist planning & project management with schedules and materials procurement
  • Help define and document scope of work
  • Support component repair assessments and documentation
  • Review BOMs and support procurement decisions for cost and speed
  • Support tooling design, continuous improvement initiatives and facilities engineering
  • Contribute to parts development
  • Get involved with technical report writing
  • Provide hands‑on technical support to overhaul operations

This could be your launchpad into overhaul engineering, tooling design, specialist repair development, continuous improvement and technical leadership.

About You

You are early in your engineering career and keen to learn by doing, not just observing. You’ll either be a recent graduate mechanical or mechatronics engineer, or have a couple of years of experience under your belt. Ideally, you will have gained exposure to, and enjoy working across, multiple aspects of engineering such as design, manufacturing, project management and quality control. You will have a level of comfort with ambiguity, be practical, pragmatic and curious, and you will have an analytical mind.

You’ll need:

  • A strong interest in hands‑on engineering, manufacturing, repair and systems‑level problem solving
  • An engineering generalist mindset – you enjoy seeing the whole system
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, basic specifications and engineering documentation
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or closely related discipline
  • Have great organisational skills, be disciplined and tidy, reliable, detail‑aware
  • Experience in project‑based, build‑heavy engineering environments
  • Exposure to manufacturing, motorsport, aerospace or mechanical systems
  • Practical mechanical experience whether through workshops, internships or personal projects
  • Experience using AI, automation, software development, or digital tools to improve engineering workflows, solve technical problems, and drive operational improvements
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to work across technical, operational and commercial boundaries
  • Willingness to engage with and learn directly from senior technical leaders

You don’t need everything listed above – we are looking for potential, curiosity and a strong learning mindset.

Rotation Group is an accredited employer with Immigration New Zealand and welcomes applications from both New Zealand-based and international candidates. About Rotation Group

The best time to join a company is just before everyone else realises they should have. The AI boom has turned electricity into the defining constraint of the digital economy, and the aeroderivative gas turbine — led by GE’s LM2500 — has become the engine of choice for fast, reliable power. Demand is running years ahead of what the industry can build, and every engine in service needs a specialist to keep it running.

We’ve spent years building for exactly this moment: three specialised sites, a purpose‑built overhaul depot, a technical centre of excellence, and a team drawn from the world’s leading OEMs and operators. Now we’re scaling — and growing our team to match the opportunity ahead. The seats we’re filling now will define the company for the next decade.

We offer a competitive compensation package, along with continuous professional development and leadership advancement.
