Job summary

Stantec’s Buildings team in New Zealand is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join a high-performing, multidisciplinary group delivering end-to-end projects for clients in data centres, healthcare, laboratories, and infrastructure. The role covers feasibility through to construction and commissioning, with a strong emphasis on mechanical, hydraulic, fire, electrical, and sustainability engineering.

  • Conduct site surveys, field investigations and feasibility studies for proposed projects
  • Produce calculations, specifications and drawings across concept to detailed designs, plus proposals and reports
  • Maintain communication and develop ongoing contacts with clients as required
  • Contribute to proposals and bid development, including preparing material and fee estimates
  • Provide budgeting and revenue expenditure input and assess financial impact of work practices

The opportunity

Stantec’s Buildings team in New Zealand delivers end-to-end projects for our clients, from feasibility and design through to construction, commissioning, and operation. Specialising in mission‑critical facilities such as data centres and healthcare, our team of 100 brings expertise in mechanical, hydraulic, fire, electrical and sustainability engineering to local projects. We’re proud to put user needs at the centre of every design.

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our high performing team. We are ideally seeking a highly qualified candidate with experience across all project sizes from low rise to high rise building projects. We are involved in a broad range of project types that include data centres, health, laboratories, industrial, education and infrastructure. Youl will support the wider Mechanical team by providing technical expertise that drive positive project outcomes.

Day to day tasks would involve:
  • Conduct site surveys, field investigations and feasibility studies for proposed projects
  • Produce calculations, specifications, and drawings (concept, preliminary, developed and detailed designs), proposals, and reports to ensure that technical content will provide the appropriate solution, with guidance and input provided from more experienced staff
  • Maintain communication and develop ongoing contacts with clients as required
  • Contribute to proposal and bid development to support business development activities, including preparing proposal material, and fee estimates as required
  • Engage in providing budgeting and revenue expenditure input, and understand impact of work practices on the financial outcome of projects
