Overview

Fuel your future with purpose – shape industry across Aotearoa and Australia.

Are you a mechanical engineer ready to make a bigger impact? Join our high-performing team and work on complex, meaningful projects that stretch across the Fuels, Chemicals, Water, and Food & Beverage industries. From concept design through to commissioning, you’ll help deliver technically sound, sustainable solutions that matter.

What you’ll do

As a Mechanical Engineer at Aurecon, you’ll contribute to multi-discipline projects across both Aotearoa and Australia, working closely with clients and colleagues to solve challenges with creativity and purpose. You’ll have the opportunity to get out on site, strengthen relationships, and broaden your experience in a hands-on environment.

What you’ll bring
 • A degree in mechanical engineering

 • 4–7 years’ post-graduate experience in mechanical design and delivery

 • Working knowledge of industrial pressure regulations (PECPR) and piping design standards (e.g. ASME B31.3)

 • Experience in API650 bulk storage tanks or pressure vessel design would be an advantage, but is not essential

 • Experience with piping analysis software such as AutoPIPE, PIPE-FLO, or similar

 • A problem-solving mindset and a drive to apply innovation to complex technical challenges

 • Clear, confident communication skills – both written and verbal – tailored to a range of audiences

 • A collaborative approach with a track record of contributing to high-performing project teams

 • Ideally, experience leading small projects or work packages and an interest in stepping into project ownership

What excites you
 • A blend of office-based design and on-site project work – you enjoy seeing your work come to life

 • Visiting client and project sites around New Zealand

 • Taking the next step into a client-facing or leadership role – whether as a project engineer, client leader, or future work winner

 • Being part of a collaborative, multi-discipline team and gaining the confidence to lead your own projects

What’s in it for me?

You really can bring your whole self to work and be confident that your voice will be heard. We don’t just claim that we’re inclusive and innovative, it’s proven by the independent awards and accreditations we have gained, and we’re always seeking new ways to prove (and improve!) our commitment to diversity.

In May 2023 we were the first engineering company in Aotearoa to receive the Gender Tick, led by our people for our people.

Our Māori strategy (He Rautaki Māori) won two Good Design awards in 2022 for its outstanding contribution in bringing Te Āo Māori and digital innovation into operations and decision-making processes.

Ready to bring ideas to life? You may apply now. We are an equitable-opportunity employer that values diverse perspectives and the contribution that every one of our people makes to our culture. Put simply, we want you to bring your whole self!

We know that people from historically or currently marginalised backgrounds are less likely to apply for roles where they don’t match all the advertisement criteria exactly. If this advert has piqued your interest and your experience may not align fully then we still want to hear from you and encourage you to apply. Remember, it’s your potential and how you bring ideas to life which are important.
