Job summary

A Montessori School in Wellington is seeking a Maths teacher for Years 8-13. This full-time, permanent role requires extensive knowledge of the New Zealand Maths curriculum and prior high school teaching experience. Candidates should have current New Zealand teacher registration and the legal right to work in the country. Wā Ora Montessori School is an Area School based in Lower Hutt, Wellington, catering for approximately 300 children and is the only Montessori School in New Zealand that nurtures the child from 0 to 18 years. We are a community based school with close connections to our whānau (families).

We are seeking a maths teacher to teach in an innovative, integrated and adaptive programme that responds to the needs of this age group and you will be excited by the opportunity to develop strong relationships with highly engaged rangatahi (young adults) in Y8–13 (12–18 year olds). The position is for a start date beginning of term 1, end of January 2026.

Requirements for this position include:

  • Current New Zealand teacher registration
  • The legal right to work in New Zealand
  • Extensive subject knowledge of the New Zealand Maths curriculum
  • Prior experience teaching at a High School level
  • Experience teaching NCEA to Level 3 is also desirable

A willingness and ability to take part in special instruction appropriate to the Special Character of the school is a condition of appointment. If successful, Montessori training will be required and sponsored by the school in return for a bond (approx 2 years).
