Job summary

King Country Pet Food in the Manawatu District is seeking a detail-driven Management Accountant with manufacturing costing experience to join our Finance team. You will partner with operations to drive cost visibility and improve profitability.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will own product costing, BOM costings, variance analysis, budgeting, and forecasting, delivering insights to support strategic decisions and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Degree in Accounting or Finance required or equivalent experience.
• Solid knowledge of cost and management accounting.
• Experience in manufacturing environment with product costing and cost drivers.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong analytical skills to interpret financial data and deliver insights.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Proactive, solution-focused approach to improving processes.
• Ability to build effective relationships with operational teams and stakeholders.
• Clear communication of financial information to non-financial colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Lead product costing activities, ensuring accuracy and ongoing maintenance.
• Oversee BOM costings with current materials, labour, and overhead inputs.
• Analyze manufacturing costs including materials, labour and overheads.
• Perform cost and variance analysis; identify trends and cost-reduction opportunities.
• Explain variances to stakeholders with actionable insights.
• Provide cost driver insights to support operational and commercial decisions.
• Assist budgeting, forecasting and operational planning related to manufacturing and product cost performance.
• Support projects with financial analysis for investments and improvements.
• Promote adherence to financial controls and cost disciplines.
• Prepare ad-hoc analyses and financial models for strategic objectives.
• Collaborate with operations, supply chain, engineering and other teams to improve data accuracy.
