Job summary

IAG is seeking a Manager, Technical Claims to lead the Technical Claims function across Broker and Specialist Claims. This permanent full-time role is based in Auckland, Christchurch, or Wellington and involves guiding complex, high-value claims with brokers and industry partners.

You will shape strategy, governance and capability, building strong stakeholder relationships and delivering fair outcomes for customers, brokers and the business.

Qualifications

  • Significant general insurance and claims leadership experience.
  • Experience managing complex, high-value, disputed or litigated claims.
  • Demonstrated ability to make timely, well-reasoned decisions in complex and ambiguous situations.
  • Proven ability to influence senior internal and external stakeholders.
  • Legal qualifications or substantial experience working with complex claims litigation would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for one of IAG's largest, most complex, high-value, disputed and legally challenging claims managed within the function.
  • Ensure complex claims are managed with clear strategies, timely decisions and appropriate consideration of policy cover, legal advice, customer and broker impacts, financial exposure and commercial outcomes.
  • Establish and maintain effective technical governance, quality assurance and review practices for complex claims and high-risk decisions.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with senior broker contacts, other insurers, reinsurers, customers where appropriate, legal firms, loss adjusters, technical experts, service providers and other external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction and overall performance of Broker and Specialist Claims, including customer, partner, operational, financial and risk outcomes.
  • Lead or sponsor initiatives that improve technical capability, claims quality, process efficiency, data insight and the experience of customers and partners.

As Manager, Technical Claims, you'll lead the Technical Claims function within the Broker and Specialist Claims team, overseeing the resolution of complex, high-value and strategically significant claims across our retail and intermediated insurance brands. Acting as the senior technical authority and a trusted partner to brokers, you'll guide challenging claim matters, negotiate significant settlements, and deliver fair outcomes.

You’ll represent IAG in significant claims discussions, negotiations and partner engagements, building trusted relationships with brokers and industry stakeholders. As a member of the Broker and Specialist Claims Leadership Team, you'll contribute to strategic priorities, strengthen technical capability and help drive the overall performance and success of the business.

This is a permanent full-time role based in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland), Ōtautahi (Christchurch) or Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington).

  • Proven ability to influence senior internal and external stakeholders, navigate competing interests and build trusted strategic relationships.
  • Legal qualifications or substantial experience working with complex claims litigation and insurance law would be advantageous.
