Mō te tūranga | About the Role

The role of the Operations Manager is to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient distribution of electricity. A key focus is on leading the control room team, managing SCADA and switching operations, overseeing incident response and public safety, and reporting network performance to regulatory bodies. The role also entails driving outage performance management to guarantee compliance, safety, and network reliability.

This position is responsible for leading and submitting reports to the Commerce Commission, developing and implementing operating procedures with regular review as part of NZS 7901 management system and audit program, and will manage and be responsible for the identification and prioritization of emergent works.

While this role is technically focused on BAU the business is going through positive transformation with the implementation of new digital systems which will transform how network control functions are undertaken and an exciting time to join the team at the onset of this program. Emphasis is placed on the ability to successfully lead and develop the capability of your team of Network Controllers with the company values being at the heart of all that you do.

Skills and Experiences:

Nā tāu rourou | What you’ll bring

To be the successful applicant you will need to have, and be able to demonstrate the following:

  • EWRB registration together with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in an EDB environment (essential)
  • Previous experience with spur lines and back feeds (desirable)
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with SCADA systems (essential)
  • Working knowledge of NZS 7901:2008 safety management system
  • Experience interacting with regulatory bodies, EDBs, ENA, and Power System Operators
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Proven experience in leading, coaching and developing talent in people (essential)
  • Ability to demonstrate a flexible and creative approach to problem-solving, good judgement, and a proactive, positive “can do” attitude
  • Proven ability to build relationships that foster trust and open communication, with a collaborative style
  • Demonstrable ability to convey written information clearly, concisely, and accurately using appropriate language and tone
  • Ability to motivate, organise, and manage workloads to meet timelines for yourself and your people.
