Job description

About the Job:

Maintenance Technician (Pet Food Manufacturing)

Location: New Zealand (On-site – Pet Food Manufacturing Plant)

Department: Engineering / Maintenance

Reports to: Maintenance & Project Engineering Manager

Employment Type: Full-time

Schedule: Shift work; flexibility for breakdowns and shutdowns as required

About the Role:

We’re looking for a Maintenance Technician to keep our pet food manufacturing equipment safe, reliable, and compliant. You will execute planned preventive maintenance, troubleshoot faults, complete corrective repairs, support shutdowns and changeovers, and maintain accurate work records in Limble CMMS. This role is critical to minimizing downtime while protecting both people safety and product safety through strong LOTO, permit, GMP, and machine handover discipline.

What You’ll Do:
Planned Maintenance Execution & Asset Care:
  • Complete assigned Preventive Maintenance (PM) tasks to standard (inspection, lubrication, adjustments, wear checks) and record results in the CMMS.
  • Perform routine inspections and basic condition checks within your competency/authorization.
  • Identify and report abnormalities early (noise, vibration, heat, leaks, wear).
  • Provide feedback on PM job plan quality (clarity, missing tools/parts, recurring issues).
Troubleshooting & Corrective Maintenance:
  • Respond to faults and breakdowns, diagnose root issues, and repair within trade scope and authorization.
  • Escalate appropriately for specialized electrical/instrumentation/controls or safety-critical issues.
  • Coordinate with other trades and contractors when needed.
  • Verify repairs through functional checks and support trial runs where required.
Safety, GMP & Machine Handover Discipline (Non-negotiable):
  • Follow site safety requirements including LOTO and permit-to-work (hot work, confined space, working at heights where applicable).
  • Apply GMP/hygienic maintenance practices: contamination control, tool control, housekeeping, foreign material prevention, and correct clean-down.
  • Follow machine handover requirements:
    • Confirm pre-maintenance handover conditions are met (safe stop, isolation/LOTO, access readiness).
    • Complete post-maintenance release steps (guards reinstated, tools removed, housekeeping completed) and required sign-offs.
    • Provide checklists/evidence for attachment to work orders.
CMMS Documentation, Parts Usage & Shift Handover:
  • Close work orders in Limble accurately and on time (fault description, actions taken, parts used, labor time, readings/measurements, photos where useful).
  • Ensure parts are issued/recorded correctly and report stockouts/wrong parts promptly.
  • Provide clear shift handover notes for open work, risks, and equipment condition.
What Success Looks Like (Role KPIs):
  • PM Compliance: % of assigned PMs completed on time and to standard
  • Work Order Quality: % closed with complete documentation (actions, parts, time, evidence)
  • Safety Compliance: zero LOTO/permit breaches; strong near-miss and safety observation participation
  • Handover Compliance: % of jobs with required pre/post handover steps and sign-offs
  • Repeat Work Reduction: fewer repeat failures on the same asset (trend-based)
  • Breakdown Response Effectiveness: timely response and safe restoration (tracked via downtime logs where applicable)
  • GMP/Housekeeping Standards: audit-ready maintenance area, tool control, and foreign material prevention after work

KPIs are measured fairly based on shift coverage, job complexity, and parts availability. The focus is consistent workmanship and discipline—not “hero fixes.”

What We’re Looking For:
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Technical diploma or trade qualification preferred (Mechanical / Electrical).
  • 3+ years’ experience as a Maintenance Technician in manufacturing (food/FMCG preferred).
  • Ability to read equipment manuals and basic drawings/schematics relevant to your trade scope.
Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong troubleshooting fundamentals (e.g., drives, conveyors, gearboxes, bearings, pneumatics) and/or trade-specific competence.
  • Strong understanding of safe isolation/LOTO and permit compliance.
  • CMMS discipline (accurate work order close-out, parts/time recording).
  • High workmanship standards, attention to detail, and teamwork with Operations and other trades.
  • Calm and safety-focused during breakdowns and high-pressure situations.
Apply Now:

If you’re a disciplined, safety-first maintenance technician who enjoys keeping production equipment running reliably in a GMP environment, we’d like to hear from you. Apply with your CV and include a short note about your maintenance experience in manufacturing and your shift availability.
