Job summary

Technical Recruitment Solutions Ltd. is representing an established timber manufacturer in Rolleston seeking an experienced Maintenance Engineer or Fitter to join a large-scale sawmill and processing operation.

You will perform planned and reactive mechanical maintenance, diagnose faults, repair production machinery, inspect equipment, maintain lubrication and support plant upgrades. Working Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 5:00pm, with a modern facility and a strong focus on health and safety,

Qualifications

• NZ trade qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Fitting & Turning, or related discipline.
• Solid industrial maintenance experience.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Welding and fabrication capability.
• Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Commitment to health and safety.
• Ability to work in a close-knit maintenance team.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive mechanical maintenance across the site.

Job description

THE OPPORTUNITY

This is an opportunity to join an established timber manufacturer based in Rolleston, supporting a large-scale sawmill and processing operation. The site has seen significant investment in its equipment and infrastructure, with further improvements planned as the business continues to expand.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

Your day-to-day work will include:

• Carrying out planned and reactive mechanical maintenance across the site
• Diagnosing faults and repairing production machinery
• Inspecting and testing equipment to identify potential issues before they cause downtime
• Maintaining lubrication systems and completing scheduled lubrication work
• Welding, fabrication and workshop-based repairs
• Modifying and improving machinery and existing repairs
• Supporting plant upgrades, projects and continuous improvement initiatives
• Working closely with the wider production and engineering teams to keep the operation running

You’ll work Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 5:00pm, giving you predictable daytime hours without the disruption of night shift work.

ABOUT YOU

We’re looking for someone who enjoys solving mechanical problems and isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

• A recognised NZ trade qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Fitting & Turning, Maintenance Engineering or a related discipline
• Solid industrial maintenance experience
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills
• Welding and general fabrication capability
• Experience working with hydraulic and pneumatic systems
• A practical approach to preventative maintenance and machinery reliability
• A strong commitment to health and safety
• The ability to work effectively as part of a close-knit maintenance team

Timber, sawmill or heavy manufacturing experience would be advantageous, although applicants with solid experience in other industrial environments will also be considered.
