As a Department/Contracting Manager, you are responsible for a specific function within a division, such as maintenance, drainage, paving, etc. You will coordinate and oversee the effective programming, utilization, and delivery of all on-site foremen, employees, plant resources, and subcontractor teams. Your projects may vary in size and scope, and our values will guide your actions.

We are seeking a Maintenance/Contracting Manager to join our team in Palmerston North. This dual role involves managing the maintenance department to ensure quality work for our clients and supporting our team members in their daily tasks. You will also oversee contract management for the division.

In addition, you will:

  • Oversee pricing, prepare variations, quotes, estimates, and tenders for client-related work
  • Manage contractual procedures related to scope changes for direct work and sub-contractor agreements
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation and submission of reports, claims, and programmes
  • Plan and organize resources, including subcontractors, surveys, materials, plant, and personnel
  • Provide leadership and guidance to your department staff to maximize performance
  • Collaborate with supervisors and administrative staff to support delivery teams and meet KPIs and OPMs

We’re looking for someone with:

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in roading maintenance and construction
  • Safety-related certifications
  • Current Class 1 driver’s license
  • Experience managing NZS 3910 and NZS 3917 contracts
  • Knowledge of contractual processes
  • RAMM experience and knowledge
  • Leadership and people management skills, with a focus on mentoring and development
  • Understanding of job pricing, including labor, plant, materials, and profit margins
  • Operational management skills: planning, resource allocation, coordination
  • Financial management skills: budgeting, cost analysis, reconciliation, reporting
  • Solid understanding of civil construction methods, systems, and techniques
  • Time management and prioritization skills to meet deadlines
  • Advanced computer literacy and file management skills
