Overview

We are seeking a hands-on and reliable Maintenance Assistant (Handy Person) to join our hotel team. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you’ll carry out day-to-day repairs and preventative maintenance to keep our hotels running smoothly and looking their best. No two days are the same — you’ll be assisting with everything from guest requests to scheduled maintenance, all while ensuring compliance with IHG brand standards, safety requirements, and local regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform general maintenance and repair tasks including painting, patching, lighting, door and bathroom fixes, and furniture maintenance.

  • Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public spaces, and back-of-house areas, addressing any deficiencies promptly.

  • Respond quickly to guest maintenance requests to deliver a positive experience.

  • Assist in implementing the Preventative Maintenance Management (PMM) schedule.

  • Work closely with other hotel departments to ensure seamless service.

  • Coordinate and oversee external trades as required.

  • Support compliance with OH&S, emergency procedures, and IHG brand safety standards.

  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and stock control.

About You
  • Proven experience in a maintenance, handyman, or trade-related role (hospitality experience a plus).

  • Strong problem-solving skills and practical repair knowledge.

  • A team player with good communication and guest service skills.

  • Organised, proactive, and able to work independently.

  • Commitment to safety and attention to detail.

  • Flexibility to assist across shifts and tasks as needed.
