About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join Brightwater Engineering as a Machine Shop Foreman. In this full-time role, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the machine shop, ensuring the smooth and efficient production of high-quality components for our diverse range of engineering projects. Based in our Brightwater Tasman facility, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the overall success of our growing engineering business.

What you'll be doing
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of machine shop personnel, including operators, machinists, and maintenance technicians
  • Develop and implement production schedules, work assignments, and quality control procedures to meet customer requirements and deadlines
  • Monitor machine performance, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate maintenance and repair activities to minimise downtime
  • Provide technical guidance and training to machine shop staff to continuously improve their skills and productivity
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to optimise machining processes and identify opportunities for process improvements
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Maintain accurate records and provide regular reports on production metrics and team performance
What we're looking for
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a supervisory role within a machine shop or similar manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated expertise in the operation and maintenance of a variety of machine tools, including CNC machines, lathes, mills, and grinders
  • Strong technical understanding of machining principles, quality control, and process improvement methodologies
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team
  • Problem-solving and decision-making abilities to address production challenges effectively
  • Familiarity with relevant health and safety regulations in the engineering industry
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions
