Job summary

Vinarchy is seeking a hands-on Machine Operator to join our Marlborough-based Operations team. You will operate tractors, harvesters and vineyard machinery across our vineyards, carrying out seasonal tasks from mowing to harvest while following safety and quality standards.

You’ll complete pre-start checks, assist with maintenance, and work with a supportive team to meet daily targets. A NZ driver’s licence, practical machinery experience and a reliable, safety‑minded attitude are essential.

• NZ driver’s licence (full) required.
• Reliable and safety‑minded with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractors, harvesters, ATVs and vineyard machinery safely and efficiently.
• Carry out mowing, mulching, trimming, leaf plucking and harvest activities.
• Complete pre‑start checks, basic maintenance and seasonal setup.
• Spot issues, speak up when something isn’t right and work with the team.

About the role

This isn’t your typical all-round Vineyard Operator role.

You’ll join Vinarchy’s dedicated Machine Operations Team, where machine operation is at the heart of what you do.

Across our Marlborough vineyards, you’ll operate tractors, harvesters and specialist vineyard machinery, carrying out seasonal operations including spraying, trimming, mowing, defoliating and harvest activities.

If you like getting behind the controls, doing the job properly and seeing the results of your work at the end of the day, this could be the role for you.

This is a permanent opportunity to build real depth in machine operations, supported by experienced operators, training and clear operating procedures.

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Machine Operations: Operate tractors, harvesters, ATVs and vineyard machinery safely and efficiently.
• Seasonal Operations: Carry out mowing, mulching, trimming, leaf plucking, compost spreading, post driving and harvest activities.
• Machine Care: Complete pre-start checks, basic preventative maintenance and seasonal machinery set-up.
• Quality & Safety: Take pride in doing the job properly, spotting issues and speaking up when something isn't right.
• Teamwork: Work closely with other operators, Team Leaders and our workshop team to keep the day's work moving.
• Continuous Improvement: Look for better ways of working and help the team deliver quality results.

These activities reflect the core operational accountabilities in the Machine Operator role description, including tractors, harvesters, ATVs, powered and towed implements, harvest activities and basic preventative maintenance.

What You’ll Bring:

We're more interested in finding good operators with the right foundations than someone who ticks every box.

You'll bring:

• Previous experience operating tractors, machinery or similar equipment
• Basic machinery knowledge and mechanical awareness
• A full, current New Zealand driver's licence
• A reputation for being reliable and doing what you say you'll do
• Good attention to detail and pride in the quality of your work
• A strong approach to safety
• The ability to work independently while still being part of the team
• Confidence following work plans and communicating when something doesn't look right
• Flexibility to work extended hours and shifts during harvest

Vineyard experience is preferred, but it isn't the only way in. If you have solid machinery experience from agriculture, horticulture or another relevant environment, we'd like to hear from you.

You don't need to know every piece of equipment from day one. Bring the basics and the right attitude to learning, and we'll help you build your capability.
