Job description

Jora New Zealand will close on 9th September 2026. Thank you for being with us, we are cheering you on as you continue your career journey.

Regional Coordinator – Lower Hutt based

20 hours per week

Help strengthen Care families. Change the lives of tamariki.

At Caring Families Aotearoa, we believe every child deserves a safe, stable and nurturing home where they can heal, grow and thrive.

We are the national voice for Care families across Aotearoa, supporting anyone caring for a child not born to them. This includes agency, whānau, informal and permanent caregivers.

Our work is grounded in Dyadic Developmental Practice which is trauma-informed and attachment-focused practice, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and a commitment to walking alongside caregivers as they navigate one of life's most rewarding and challenging roles.

We're looking for a compassionate and motivated Regional Coordinator to join our national team, and you will be based in Lower Hutt. This position covers Wellington up to Levin (excluding Wairarapa - a map of the region covered is included in the job description).. This is an opportunity to make a genuine difference by supporting caregivers, strengthening communities, and helping improve outcomes for tamariki across the region

About the role

As our Regional Coordinator, you'll be the trusted local face of Caring Families Aotearoa, providing practical on the ground support, advocacy, therapeutic parenting training and connection for Care families across the region.

While most of your work will be office based supporting caregivers, the role brings a lot of variety. One day you may be supporting a caregiver through a challenging meeting or helping them navigate a complex system, the next you might be facilitating a therapeutic parenting training, building relationships with community partners, or bringing caregivers together through local events and support groups.

Working independently while being part of a highly supportive national team, you'll build strong relationships with caregivers, Oranga Tamariki, iwi providers, community organisations and other key stakeholders to ensure Care families feel informed, connected and empowered.

About you

You're someone who enjoys building genuine relationships and making a meaningful difference. You bring empathy, professionalism and strong organisational skills, and you're comfortable working both independently and collaboratively.

You'll also have:

  • Experience working within the care, social services, education, health or community sector.
  • An understanding of the unique challenges experienced by foster, whānau, kin and permanent caregivers.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience advocating for individuals and navigating complex systems.
  • Strong planning, organisational and administrative skills.
  • Sound digital skills, including Microsoft 365 and online communication platforms.
  • A commitment to culturally safe practice and the ability to work respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Have a working knowledge of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Knowledge of relevant child protection legislation and the care sector (desirable).
  • A current full New Zealand driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle. (There is expected travel and overnight stays within this role including travel to cover your own region, attending "face to face" national team meetings and visits to other regions. There may also be some weekend and/or evening work.)
  • Eligibility to live and work in New Zealand.
What we offer

Joining Caring Families Aotearoa means becoming part of a passionate national team committed to improving the lives of children by supporting those who care for them.

We offer:

  • Meaningful work that creates lasting impact for tamariki and whānau.
  • Comprehensive induction and ongoing professional development.
  • Professional external supervision.
  • The opportunity to work autonomously while being well supported by a national team.

The salary band for this position is $62,169 to $71,323 FTE depending on skills and experience.
