Job summary

Northpower is seeking an experienced Lines Supervisor in Palmerston North to lead field crews delivering safe, high‑quality electricity network maintenance and construction work. You will oversee planning, pre‑job risk assessments, and daily briefs to ensure work is prepared and executed to high standards.

You will mentor crews, manage budgets, and collaborate with project managers, design estimators, planners, and clients to drive continuous improvement while maintaining HSQE compliance.

Qualifications

  • Strong leadership and safety culture in field teams.
  • Experience supervising line crews in electricity distribution is essential.
  • Knowledge of LV/HV distribution networks and relevant certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Lead line crews, mentor teams, and promote a safety‑first culture.
  • Support planning, scoping, estimating and safe work methodologies.
  • Ensure testing, documentation, and GIS information are completed on time.
  • Coordinate labour, plant, materials, contractors, and resources to meet project outcomes.
  • Develop relationships with customers, network owners, contractors, and stakeholders.

At Northpower, we're looking for an experienced LinesSupervisor to lead our field teams in delivering safe, high-quality electricitynetwork maintenance and construction work. About the Role:

Reporting to the Delivery Manager, you'll be responsible foroverseeing the successful delivery of maintenance and contracting work fromplanning through to completion. You'll provide day-to-day leadership to fieldcrews, ensuring work is completed safely, on time, within budget, and to thehighest quality standards.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll work closelywith Project Managers, Design Estimators, Planners, Field Managers, customers,and network owners to coordinate work, solve problems, and continuously improveoperational performance.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Lines Supervisor, you will lead, mentor, and superviseline crews, fostering a strong safety-first culture while ensuring work iscompleted safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard. You will supportproject planning, job scoping, estimating, and the development of safe workmethodologies, while conducting pre-job planning, risk assessments, and dailyjob briefings to ensure work is thoroughly prepared. You will monitor projectprogress, quality, productivity, and compliance with work scopes and customerrequirements, coordinating labour, plant, materials, contractors, and resourcesto achieve successful project outcomes. You will ensure all testing, fielddocumentation, reporting, and GIS information is completed accurately and ontime, while supporting network switching activities where required. Buildingand maintaining strong relationships with customers, network owners,contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders will be key to your success.You'll also coach, develop, and support your team, promoting accountability,continuous improvement, and high performance. Above all, you will identifyopportunities to improve safety, work practices, quality, and operationalperformance while ensuring full compliance with Health, Safety, Quality andEnvironmental (HSQE) requirements, industry standards, and legislativeobligations.

Experience:
  • Proven experience supervising line crews within the electricity distribution industry.
  • Strong knowledge of LV and HV distribution networks and Zone Substations.
  • National Certificate Electricity Supply (Line Mechanic Distribution Level 4 or Live Work Level 5), National Certificate in Electrical Engineering Level 4, or equivalent.
  • Current practising licence relevant to the role.
  • Current Workplace Competencies (WTCs).
  • A current NZ Class 1 Driver Licence (Class 2 or 4 is advantageous).
  • Sound knowledge of industry legislation, codes of practice, standards, and the Safety Manual – Electricity Industry (SM-EI).
  • Excellent planning, organisational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building abilities.
  • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • A commitment to delivering outstanding customer service without compromising safety or quality.
