Job summary

Northpower Limited in Auckland is seeking a Design Engineer to join the CustomerProjects team. You’ll design, plan, price, and tender electrical distribution projects, delivering practical, cost‑effective solutions that meet customer, regulatory, and safety requirements.

Collaborate with project managers, operations, customers, contractors and authorities from concept to construction. This role strengthens essential infrastructure across Aotearoa while you develop technical and commercial

Qualifications

  • Minimum BE Electrical or Electrical Diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with electricity distribution networks.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills.
  • Proven ability to prepare estimates, tenders and contract docs.
  • CAD experience for construction drawings and as-builts.

Responsibilities

  • Design overhead and underground distribution infrastructure.
  • Prepare pricing estimates, tenders and documentation.
  • Produce CAD construction and as-built drawings.
  • Plan project delivery and support handovers.
  • Support customer-initiated works and network upgrades.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships across customers and teams.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality and regulatory requirements.

About the Role

We're looking for a Design Engineer to join our CustomerProjects team. In this role, you'll provide design, planning, pricing, andtendering services for a range of electricity distribution projects, helpingdeliver practical, cost-effective solutions that meet customer, regulatory, andsafety requirements.
Working closely with Project Managers, Operational Teams,customers, contractors, consultants, and local authorities, you'll be involvedin projects from concept through to construction, ensuring designs areaccurate, compliant, and ready for successful delivery.

You'll be responsible for:
  • Designingoverhead and underground electricity distribution infrastructure
  • Preparingpricing estimates, tenders, and contractual documentation
  • ProducingCAD construction and as-built drawings
  • Planningproject delivery and supporting project handovers
  • Supportingcustomer-initiated works, network upgrades, asset relocations, and newsubdivisions
  • Managingstakeholder relationships across customers, contractors, consultants, andinternal teams
  • Ensuringcompliance with customer, regulatory, quality, and safety requirements
  • Identifyingopportunities for continuous improvement and operational excellence

About You

You're a proactive and customer-focused engineeringprofessional who enjoys solving problems, building relationships, anddelivering practical outcomes. Whether you're an experienced Design Engineer orbringing relevant industry experience from a related field, you're motivated byseeing projects progress from design through to delivery.

You'll bring:
  • A BEElectrical, Electrical Diploma, or equivalent industry experience
  • Afull New Zealand Driver Licence
  • Experienceor exposure to electricity distribution networks and infrastructure
  • Knowledgeof overhead and underground network design principles
  • Experiencepreparing estimates, pricing, tenders, and project documentation
  • CADexperience and the ability to produce accurate technical drawings
  • Strongplanning, organisation, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellentcommunication and stakeholder management abilities
  • Astrong commitment to health, safety, quality, and environmental standards
  • Acustomer-focused approach and the ability to work collaboratively acrossteams
  • Experience with substations, transformers, networkreinforcements, asset relocations, subdivisions, or utility infrastructureprojects would be highly advantageous.
  • Most importantly, you're a team player who takes pride indelivering high-quality work, building strong relationships, and helping createinfrastructure that keeps communities connected and powered.
