Job summary

Auckland Village Library, part of the Auckland Libraries team within Auckland Council, is seeking a Libraries & Council Services Assistant. The role involves supporting day-to-day library operations and delivering customer service across a busy community hub in Albany.

You will help run events and programmes and assist customers with information resources and devices. Flexibility is required as the service operates 7 days a week; the 38-hour fixed-term position runs Tuesday to Saturday until 31

Job description

The opportunity has arisen to work as a Libraries & Council Services Assistant at Albany Village Library within the Upper Harbour and Hibiscus and Bays SouthLocal Board Libraries team.

Albany Village Library is a busy community library serving a diverse and vibrant community. We are looking for a flexible all-rounder to join and contribute as part of a high-achieving, cohesive, and dynamic team. You will be supporting the team and contributing to the day-to-day running of the library. As this is a customer service role, you will be helping customers from all walks of life.

We are open 7 days a week so flexibility around working days, including weekends is required. We are looking to fill a 38 hour fixed term role/secondment working Tuesday through Saturday, until 31 July 2027.

  • Community outreach opportunities in Upper Harbour
  • Must be willing to travel
  • Self-motived to deliver impactful customer service
  • Is collaborative, creative, and enthusiastic in planning, promoting, and delivering events and programmes to our diverse Upper Harbour communities.
  • Brings a can-do attitude – reliable, full of ideas, and ready to make things happen.
  • Understands and uses technology creatively and with confidence, able to support customers to successfully use information resources and devices.
  • Has a strong people focused, and empathy driven work ethic. Along with a positive attitude, pride in their work and in the ability to influence others positively.
  • Demonstrates excellent written and communication skills with a strong people focus.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of Te Ao Māori values and principles.
  • Being bilingual in Mandarin or Korean is advantageous.
  • Has a New Zealand driver’s license

This role is salary band E, we expect to appoint the successful candidate at a salary of between $67,414 - $79,310 depending upon skills & experience.
