What you'll do:

As Legal Counsel Corporate, you will be providing expert legal guidance on a diverse range of corporate, commercial, and regulatory matters. Your day-to-day responsibilities will see you working closely with internal stakeholders across various departments—providing clear guidance on complex legal issues ranging from contract negotiations to regulatory compliance. You will play a role in supporting major projects such as mergers or new product launches by ensuring all legal risks are identified and managed proactively. You will also collaborate with internal teams to align legal guidance with broader business strategy and enhance legal awareness across the organisation through training and knowledge sharing.

To be successful in this role you will bring:

  • Hold a current New Zealand practising certificate or demonstrate eligibility to obtain one;
  • At least 4 years post-qualification experience gained within either private practice or an in-house environment.
  • Demonstrate expertise in one or all of the following areas: insurance law, financial services regulation or corporate/commercial law within New Zealand’s unique legal context.
  • Showcase advanced skills in contract negotiation and drafting across a broad spectrum of commercial agreements.
  • Exhibit strong commercial acumen with proven ability to balance risk considerations against business objectives for optimal outcomes.
  • Display excellent stakeholder management capabilities alongside relationship-building skills.
  • Demonstrate outstanding communication and presentation skills that facilitate shared understanding among colleagues at all levels.
