Job Description

We are seeking a 2-year fixed-term Lecturer in Sociology to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, supervision of sub-doctoral students, and to undertake high quality and impactful research.

The successful candidate will have teaching and/or research expertise in one or more of these fields: Māori and/or Indigenous Sociology, decolonial social sciences, Asian diasporas and communities, social justice and/or applied sociology. We particularly welcome and encourage the applications of critical sociologists and related social scientists with methodological and theoretical expertise in Indigenous, Kaupapa Māori, and/or Asian epistemologies.

Researchers and educators in Sociology at Waipapa Taumata Rau have expertise in social theory, Pacific sociologies, higher education, critical mental health studies, science and technology studies, urban sociology, disasters, migration and population, sports sociology, transgender studies, social movements and social justice, amongst other areas. We seek a colleague who will bring research and teaching expertise that compliments and/or extends the current Sociology staff profile and teaching programme.

The successful candidate will be familiar with or open to learning about Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) and be prepared to build or extend relationships with Māori and Pacific communities in Aotearoa New Zealand.
