Job summary

Wellington East Girls' College invites an experienced leader to head our Science Learning Area. This full-time, permanent role works with the Senior Leadership Team to design and implement teaching and learning programmes across Years 7–15.

The ideal candidate has curriculum leadership experience, knowledge of the NZ Curriculum and NCEA, and a track record of improving student outcomes in science. You will lead a collaborative team and contribute to culturally sustaining practices.

Qualifications

• Ability to mentor and develop science teachers.

Wellington East Girls' College is seeking an experienced leader to lead our Science Learning Area. In this role you will be supported by the Senior Leadership Team and other Learning Area Leads to use pedagogical best practice to design and implement teaching and learning programmes.

The successful candidate will have experience in curriculum leadership, show commitment to collaborative innovative practices, have knowledge of the NZ Curriculum and NCEA with experience in teaching science to all year levels (Year 9-13). They will be committed to collaborative innovative practices, with the ability to track and monitor the performance of their programmes so the best outcomes for students are achieved, enrich the curriculum with their knowledge and experience, and be dedicated to fostering success in every student.

Our Science Learning Area is a dynamic team of dedicated educators who bring a wide range of strengths and experiences, with science, biology, bio health, chemistry and physics taught across the team. They pride themselves on strong collaboration-using best practice to ensure consistency and high-quality teaching and share resources and ideas with each other. The Learning Area has a commitment to culturally sustaining practices and has developed a range of practical approaches and courses to support our students. They are well resourced with established systems in place and supported by an experienced science technician.
