Brian Perry Civil – Wellington Central, North Island is seeking a skilled Leading Hand to supervise a small crew on structural and civil construction projects. You will coordinate daily activities, manage formwork, concrete placement and reinforcing work while ensuring high-quality, safe outcomes on site.

Ideal candidates have at least 5 years in structural/civil construction with a strong carpentry and formwork background.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience in structural, civil or commercial construction environments.
  • Strong background in carpentry, formwork, concrete structures, bridge construction or related works.
  • Proven experience leading, mentoring or coordinating small site teams.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Sound knowledge of concrete construction methods and formwork systems.
  • Commitment to safe work practices and workplace safety.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support a crew of 3 to 5 people on structural and civil construction projects.
  • Coordinate daily construction activities, including labour, plant, equipment and materials.
  • Oversee formwork, concrete placement, reinforcing steel installation and general structural construction activities.
  • Promote safe work practices and lead by example on site.
  • Communicate daily plans, work requirements and project expectations to the crew.
  • Monitor quality standards and ensure work is completed to specification and project requirements.
  • Contribute to hands-on carpentry, formwork and structural construction activities as required.
  • Assist the Foreman with planning, productivity and programme delivery.

About the Role

Join a team delivering complex civil and structural construction projects across the region. As a Leading Hand, you'll combine hands-on structural construction work with day-to-day crew leadership, coordinating people, plant, materials and subcontractors to deliver safe, high-quality outcomes.

This role is ideal for an experienced carpenter or structural Leading Hand with a background in concrete structures, formwork, reinforcing, bridge works, retaining structures, or other heavy civil structural projects. You'll work closely with the Foreman to lead a small crew, drive productivity, maintain quality standards, and ensure work is delivered safely and efficiently.

  • Lead and support a crew of 3 to 5 people on structural and civil construction projects

What You’ll Bring

  • At least 5 years' experience in structural, civil or commercial construction environments
  • Strong background in carpentry, formwork, concrete structures, bridge construction or related structural works
  • Proven experience leading, mentoring or coordinating small site teams
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Sound knowledge of concrete construction methods, formwork systems and reinforcing processes
  • Strong understanding of safe work practices and commitment to workplace safety
  • Practical knowledge of construction tools, plant and equipment
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with crews, supervisors and subcontractors
  • Reliable time management, strong work ethic and a willingness to lead from the front
