Job summary

GrainCorp Liquid Terminals in Bluff is seeking a Lead Terminal Operator to support day-to-day terminal activities and act as a point of contact in the absence of the Terminal Manager. You will train staff, supervise loading and unloading of road tankers and ships, and ensure strict safety and quality controls.

The role requires experience in a mechanical environment, strong problem-solving and time-management skills, and the ability to adapt to vessel movements including weekends and public

Qualifications

  • Safety-focused and hygiene-conscious in a mechanical environment.
  • Senior operator experience or similar role required.
  • Flexibility to work weekends/holidays and vessel movements.

Responsibilities

  • Take over from Terminal Manager in their absence.
  • Train new staff and operators.
  • Load/unload road tankers and delivery trucks.
  • Load/unload ships and transfer product between tanks.
  • Perform site safety checks and compliance.
  • Clean storage tanks and manage heating requirements.
  • Do tank gauging, ullage, stock calculations and dips.
  • Sample tanks and road tankers; ensure product quality.

About the role

Reporting to the Terminal Manager at Bluff, the Lead Terminal Operator is a critical team member, responsible for providing support and coordination in day to day terminal activities. Your primary accountabilities will involve:

  • Taking over from the Terminal Manager in their absence
  • Training of new staff and Operators
  • Loading and unloading of road tankers and delivery trucks
  • Loading and unloading of ships.
  • Transfer of product from tank to tank.
  • Complete site safety checks and compliance.
  • Cleaning of storage tanks.
  • Manage heating requirements for all operations as required.
  • Tank gauging and ullaging including stock level calculations and stop dips.
  • Sampling of tanks, road tankers.
  • Quality control of incoming and outgoing product.
  • Carry out routine laboratory analysis of stored products as required.
  • Participate in all shipping operations.
  • Participate in confined space entry and working at Height's activities.
  • General site maintenance.
  • Complete permits for contractors.
About your experience

As a safety-focused individual, you will have previous experience working in a senior operator role or within a mechanical based environment. You will display high standards regarding hygiene within the workplace.
You are known for your strong customer focus, and ability to problem solve and troubleshoot. With your flexible attitude, you will be willing to work reasonable additional hours including working flexibly to accommodate vessel movements and changes in vessel scheduling (this includes weekends and publics holidays on occasion. Additionally you will have excellent time management skills and be able to work autonomously.
Good verbal and written communication skills are required as well as a positive attitude and a willingness to learn. A forklift license, confined space and working at heights certs and knowledge in computer systems such as Excell, Word doc and SAP desirable but is not essential.
In addition to providing proof of working rights, progressed candidates will be required to undertake a pre-employment medical.
