Job summary

Kiwibank is looking for a collaborative Lead Engineer, Integrations & Vendor Delivery to steer complex integration programs across Wellington or Auckland. You will align vendors and internal teams to deliver resilient platform integrations that support customer experiences and frontline operations.

The role centers on technical direction, delivery assurance and architectural governance, with emphasis on API/system integrations, design reviews, and clear ownership of decisions and risks.

Qualifications

• Experience overseeing engineering delivery across internal teams and external vendors.
• Strong grounding in enterprise platforms and cloud architectures.

As Lead Engineer, Integrations & Vendor Delivery, you’ll help connect the platforms and services behind simpler experiences for Kiwibank customers and frontline teams. Working alongside external vendors and internal engineering teams, you’ll provide the technical direction and oversight that help a critical business domain thrive. This 18 months fixed contract opportunity can be based in Wellington/Auckland.

Be the technical leader who brings clarity, alignment and accountability to complex integration delivery. You’ll guide vendor-delivered solutions and oversee platform integrations, ensuring they support the stability, resilience and ongoing evolution of your domain.

Your focus will be on technical direction and delivery assurance rather than day-to-day coding. Drawing on a strong engineering background, you’ll challenge proposals, assess technical trade-offs and review designs against agreed architectural principles. You’ll ensure engineering practices are followed, significant decisions and their rationale are captured, and risks, dependencies and actions have clear owners.

Working across remote and distributed teams, you’ll align vendors, engineers, architects and business stakeholders around shared outcomes. You’ll also ensure solutions are ready for production, with appropriate monitoring, support arrangements and operational handover, helping teams deliver technology that remains reliable beyond launch.

For this role we’re looking for a collaborative technical leader who combines a strong engineering background with the ability to guide vendors, influence teams and maintain delivery standards. We would love to hear from you if you have experience in the following:

• Proven ability to oversee engineering delivery across internal teams and external vendors, establishing clear responsibilities and accountability for technical outcomes
• Strong technical grounding in enterprise platforms, cloud architecture and technologies such as C#/.NET, with the ability to assess designs and challenge technical proposals
• Demonstrated experience overseeing complex API and system integrations, including interface contracts, integration dependencies and reliable end-to-end operation
• Experience reviewing vendor-delivered designs and solutions against agreed architectural principles, engineering standards and acceptance criteria
• Ability to ensure consistent engineering practices across teams, including design reviews, testing, security, CI/CD and operational readiness
• Proven ability to ensure engineering decisions, rationale, trade-offs and risks are documented, with clear ownership and follow-through
• Excellent communication and influencing skills, aligning business stakeholders, architects, engineering teams and vendors around clear delivery expectations
• Demonstrated ability to turn ambiguous requirements into clear technical scope, proactively managing cross-team dependencies, integration risks and escalations
• Experience guiding remote and distributed teams across locations and time zones, promoting effective communication, collaboration and shared accountability
• Sound understanding of production support and service management, ensuring effective monitoring, support arrangements and handover for vendor-delivered solutions
