Job summary

Higgins in Wellington is seeking Labourers to support civil and concrete works across the region. You will join a tight-knit crew, performing site preparation, labouring, and support tasks to deliver safe, high-quality outcomes.

Qualifications

• Experience in civil construction or roading labouring preferred.
• Class 1 Driver Licence is required.
• Site Safe Passport or similar (TTM Awareness/TC Basic/First Aid) desirable.
• Ability to follow instructions and work well in a team.
• Willingness to learn and a positive attitude.

Responsibilities

• Assist civil and concrete construction activities including excavation support, backfilling, spreading, compacting, and concrete preparation.
• Perform general labouring tasks such as shovelling, sweeping, raking, lifting, and carrying materials.
• Prepare work areas, protect assets, and help set up and pack down sites.
• Support mobile plant operations as a spotter when trained and authorised.
• Operate small tools and equipment safely (where trained).
• Complete basic pre-start checks on small plant and equipment.
• Maintain tidy, well organised work areas.
• Follow Work Plans, JSEA’s, and Supervisor instructions to ensure quality outcomes.
• Assist with environmental controls, spill response, and site clean ups.
• Work cooperatively with your crew and support other teams when required.
• Always follow Higgins’ health, safety, and environmental processes and wear PPE.

The Civil–Concrete team at Higgins Wellington is growing, and we’re looking for motivated Labourers to join us. If you enjoy hands on work, being part of a tight knit crew, and contributing to meaningful civil construction projects across the region, this is a great opportunity to build your career in the industry.

As a Labourer, you’ll support the delivery of civil and concrete works by carrying out general labouring, site preparation, and construction support tasks. You’ll work alongside experienced operators, forepersons, and traffic teams to help deliver safe, high quality outcomes on every job.

What you’ll be doing

• Assisting with civil and concrete construction activities including excavation support, backfilling, spreading, compacting, and concrete preparation
• Performing general labouring tasks such as shovelling, sweeping, raking, lifting, and carrying materials
• Preparing work areas, protecting assets, and helping set up and pack down sites

What you’ll bring

• A positive attitude, reliability, and willingness to learn
• Experience with a kerb machine (extruded and cast in-stiu) is a plus.
• Ability to perform manual labour tasks and work safely around plant and machinery Experience in civil construction or roading labouring (desirable but not essential)
• Understanding of safe working practices on construction sites
• Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team
• Class 1 Driver Licence (required)
• Site Safe Passport, TTM Awareness/TC Basic, or First Aid (desirable)
