Job summary

Higgins is seeking a motivated Labourer to join the Wairoa team in New Zealand. The role supports construction, maintenance and infrastructure activities, working with operators and project teams to deliver high-quality outcomes.

You'll perform practical labour, assist with site setup, operate small tools safely, and follow strict safety and environmental procedures. A Full Class 1 Licence is required, with opportunities to upskill and progress within Higgins.

Qualifications

  • Proactive, reliable, and willing to learn
  • Able to perform manual labour and operate around plant/equipment safely
  • Experience in construction/roading or maintenance is a plus, not essential
  • Understand safe working practices on construction sites

Responsibilities

  • Assist with construction, maintenance and infrastructure tasks
  • Perform shovelling, sweeping, lifting and carrying materials
  • Prepare work areas and assist with site setup and pack down
  • Support plant operations when trained and safe
  • Operate small tools safely and complete pre-start checks
  • Maintain tidy, safe work areas and follow plans and quality requirements
  • Assist with environmental controls and site clean-up
  • Work collaboratively with crew and other teams
  • Follow Higgins safety procedures and PPE requirements

The Higgins team in Wairoa is looking for a motivated Labourer to join us. If you enjoy hands-on work, being part of a supportive crew, and contributing to projects that make a real difference in the community, this is a great opportunity to build your career in the civil construction industry.

As a Labourer, you'll support a range of construction, maintenance, and infrastructure activities, working alongside experienced operators, forepersons, and project teams to help deliver safe, high-quality outcomes.

What you'll be doing

  • Assisting with a variety of construction, maintenance, and infrastructure activities
  • Performing general labouring tasks including shovelling, sweeping, raking, lifting, and carrying materials
  • Preparing work areas and helping with site set up and pack down
  • Supporting plant and equipment operations when required and appropriately trained
  • Operating small tools and equipment safely
  • Completing basic pre-start checks on plant and equipment
  • Maintaining tidy, organised, and safe work areas
  • Following work plans, site instructions, and quality requirements
  • Assisting with environmental controls, site clean-up, and maintenance activities
  • Working collaboratively with your crew and supporting other teams when required
  • Following Higgins' health, safety, and environmental procedures and wearing required PPE at all times

What you'll bring

  • A positive attitude, reliability, and willingness to learn
  • Ability to perform manual labour tasks and work safely around plant and machinery
  • Experience in construction, infrastructure, roading, maintenance, or a similar environment is desirable but not essential
  • Understanding of safe working practices on construction sites
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Full Class 1 Driver Licence (required)
  • Site Safe Passport, TTM Awareness/TC Basic, First Aid, or other relevant industry qualifications are advantageous
