You will help set up laboratories, assist with practical lessons and exams, handle chemicals safely, and support ICT equipment in the Science faculty. A highly organized, independent approach is essential.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Science Technician to support teaching in the Science Department.
• Set up laboratories for class lessons, including handling of chemicals.
• Assist with the set-out and tidy up of practical work and cleaning.
• Assist with the setting up of ICT equipment within the Science faculty.
• Prepare laboratories and equipment for internal and external examinations (e.g., CIE).
• Care for living specimens, plants, etc., as needed.
• Label laboratory equipment, apparatus and supplies.
• Prepare chemicals and solutions for experiments.
• Keep laboratory stocks current and searchable.
• Research new practicals to enhance student knowledge and experience.

Pinehurst School, a Year 1-13 private school in Auckland of 1100+ students, is looking for a motivated and well‑organised Laboratory Assistant to work in our College supporting the Science Department.

The position is a part‑time position of 25 hours per week, term time only. This position would be suitable for someone who has a passion for the Sciences and is either studying Science part‑time or is looking for part‑time work.

Key Tasks

• Assist the Science Technician as instructed to maintain the smooth function of Science faculty teaching
• Assist in setting up laboratories for class lessons, including some handling of chemicals.
• Assist in the set-out and tidy up of experimental and practical work as necessary including cleaning
• Assist with the setting up of computers and other ICT apparatus within the Science faculty
• Assist with the preparation of the laboratories and equipment for internal and external CIE practical examinations
• Assist in the care for living specimens, plants etc.
• Assist in labelling laboratory equipment, apparatus and supplies
• Assist in the handling and preparation of some chemicals and solutions
• Assist in keeping laboratory equipment stocks current
• Assist in researching new practical’s to facilitate student knowledge and experience.
• Assist with filing sorting and compilation of scientific‑practical resources.

You will be a highly organised person who can work independently and professionally, manage time and conflicting priorities, and take the initiative. You will be adaptable, bringing a calm, positive attitude, even when we’re all busy.
