Job summary

Summerset is seeking a Kitchen Assistant for the St Johns village in New Zealand. You will support chefs with food prep, plating, dishwashing, and maintaining a clean, compliant kitchen, contributing to residents’ daily meals and wellbeing.

The role is fixed-term full-time from 2 December 2026 to 3 January 2027 with a roster including daytime hours Mon, Tue, Fri, Sat, Sun. Benefits are offered to support staff development and wellbeing.

Qualifications

• Previous work experience ideally within hospitality.
• Friendly, can-do attitude and great communication skills.
• Good physical stamina.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a supportive team.

Job Description

As a Kitchen Assistant for our St Johns village, you’ll be at the heart of our kitchen’s day-to-day operations. Your support will help ensure our chefs can deliver nutritious, high-quality meals to our residents and visitors. From assisting with food prep to keeping the kitchen clean and organised, you’ll make a big difference behind the scenes – and you’ll be appreciated for it.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Assisting with basic food preparation such as peeling, chopping andportioning
• Helping with plating and presentation of meals
• Operating dishwashers and ensuring all kitchenware is properly sanitised
• Keeping kitchen areas clean, organised, and compliant
• Helping to receive, unpack and store deliveries, including stock rotation

Your role will be varied and rewarding and your efforts will directly contribute to the wellbeing and enjoyment of our residents and their families.

This is a fixed term full-time role (2nd December 2026 to 3rd January 2027), and working a roster:
Monday 10.00am to 6.30pm, Tuesday, 10.00am to 6.30pm, Friday, Saturday and Sunday 8.00am to 4.30pm.

Qualifications

You’re approachable, reliable, and a team player with a strong work ethic and a genuine desire to contribute to a high-performing kitchen. You’ll also bring:
