Job summary

Summerset St Johns Village is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to support our kitchen team in preparing nutritious meals for residents and visitors. You will help with basic food preparation, plating, and maintaining cleanliness and organisation in a busy kitchen.

You will work a fixed-term full-time roster from 2 December 2026 to 3 January 2027 at St Johns Village. Previous hospitality experience is beneficial, with good communication and reliability valued in a friendly team environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in hospitality or food service preferred.
• Good communication and reliability.
• Able to work in a busy kitchen and stand for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Assisting with basic food preparation such as peeling, chopping and portioning
• Helping with plating and presentation of meals
• Operating dishwashers and ensuring all kitchenware is properly sanitised
• Keeping kitchen areas clean, organised, and compliant
• Helping to receive, unpack and store deliveries, including stock rotation

Job Description

As a Kitchen Assistant for our St Johns village, you’ll be at the heart of our kitchen’s day-to-day operations. Your support will help ensure our chefs can deliver nutritious, high-quality meals to our residents and visitors. From assisting with food prep to keeping the kitchen clean and organised, you’ll make a big difference behind the scenes – and you’ll be appreciated for it.

Your Day-to-day Responsibilities Will Include

• Assisting with basic food preparation such as peeling, chopping and portioning

• Operating dishwashers and ensuring all kitchenware is properly sanitised
• Keeping kitchen areas clean, organised, and compliant
• Helping to receive, unpack and store deliveries, including stock rotation

Your role will be varied and rewarding and your efforts will directly contribute to the wellbeing and enjoyment of our residents and their families.

Contract Details

This is a fixed term full‑time role (2nd December 2026 to 3rd January 2027), and working a roster: Monday 10.00am to 6.30pm, Tuesday 10.00am to 6.30pm, Friday, Saturday and Sunday 8.00am to 4.30pm.

Qualifications

You’re approachable, reliable, and a team player with a strong work ethic and a genuine desire to contribute to a high-performing kitchen. You’ll also bring:

• Previous work experience ideally within hospitality
• A friendly, can‑do attitude and great communication skills
• Good physical stamina
• The ability to work independently and as part of a supportive team
