Job summary

Summerset Whanganui Village is looking for a Kitchen Assistant to support our kitchen team in providing nutritious meals for residents and visitors. You will help with basic prep, plating, and keeping the kitchen clean and compliant, ensuring smooth daily operations.

You will work 4 days on, 2 days off with AM and PM shifts, on-site at Whanganui Village, and you can expect ongoing training and opportunities for advancement within our caring retirement community.

Qualifications

• Previous work experience ideally within hospitality.
• Good communication skills and a can-do attitude.
• Solid physical stamina for a busy kitchen environment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist with basic food preparation such as peeling, chopping and portioning.
• Help with plating and presentation of meals.
• Operate dishwashers and keep kitchenware sanitised.
• Maintain clean, organised and compliant kitchen areas.
• Receive, unpack and store deliveries with stock rotation.

Job Description

As a Kitchen Assistant for our Whanganui village you’ll be at the heart of our kitchen’s day-to-day operations. Your support will help ensure our chefs can deliver nutritious, high-quality meals to our residents and visitors. From assisting with food prep to keeping the kitchen clean and organised, you’ll make a big difference behind the scenes – and you’ll be appreciated for it.

Your Day-to-day Responsibilities Will Include

• Assisting with basic food preparation such as peeling, chopping and portioning
• Helping with plating and presentation of meals
• Operating dishwashers and ensuring all kitchenware is properly sanitised
• Keeping kitchen areas clean, organized, and compliant
• Helping to receive, unpack and store deliveries, including stock rotation

Your role will be varied and rewarding and your efforts will directly contribute to the wellbeing and enjoyment of our residents and their families.

The shifts/hours for this role are: 4 days on 2 days off (2xAM shifts/2xPM shifts)

Qualifications

• Previous work experience ideally within hospitality
• A friendly, can-do attitude and great communication skills
• Good physical stamina
• The ability to work independently and as part of a supportive team
