At Oceania, we believe great food is about more than just a meal – it's about bringing people together, creating moments of joy, and making our residents feel at home.

We're looking for a friendly, enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join our dedicated team at The Bellevue Village in Christchurch.

This is a permanent position, working 64 hours per fortnight, with regular weekday shifts.

The role

As a Kitchen Assistant, you'll play an important part in creating a welcoming dining experience for our residents. Working alongside our kitchen and care teams, you'll help prepare and serve delicious meals while keeping our kitchen running smoothly.

What you'll be doing:

  • Assisting with food preparation, meal service and general kitchen duties.
  • Helping serve meals to our residents with warmth, care and a smile.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe and organised kitchen environment.
  • Following food safety standards, cleaning procedures and our Food Control Plan.
  • Working closely with your teammates to deliver a great dining experience.
  • Building your skills and knowledge along the way.

What you'll bring

We're looking for someone who enjoys being part of a team, takes pride in their work and genuinely cares about making a difference.

You'll ideally have:

  • Previous experience in a kitchen, hospitality or food service environment.
  • A passion for food and delivering great customer service.
  • A basic understanding of food preparation, food safety and Food Control Plans.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • The ability to multitask and manage your time effectively.
  • A positive, team-first attitude and great communication skills.
  • Confidence following cleaning and hygiene procedures.
  • The right to work in New Zealand.

Why join Oceania?

At Oceania, we're proud to be one of New Zealand's leading providers of retirement living and aged care. Across more than 30 villages, we support over 4,000 residents by creating communities where people feel at home, connected, and well cared for.

Our purpose is simple: to make a difference in every task, every challenge, every day. It's a purpose that's brought to life through the way we work:

  • We're one team – We collaborate across teams and functions because together we're stronger than any individual effort.
  • We're finding better ways – We challenge ourselves to think differently, find creative solutions, and continuously improve.
  • We're committed to care – We put safety and care at the centre of everything we do, creating environments where everyone feels supported.
  • We're proud to deliver – We follow through on our commitments because every task matters, and our residents and families count on us to get it right.

When you join Oceania, you'll become part of a supportive team where you'll be encouraged to learn, grow, and make a meaningful contribution every day. In return, we offer competitive pay, ongoing learning and development opportunities, free and confidential wellbeing support, and the chance to build a rewarding career with an organisation that's making a real difference.
