Job summary

ChildFund New Zealand is seeking a Programs Manager to lead CFNZ’s Kiribati portfolio, ensuring a coherent, locally led country programme that is evidence-based, sustainable and aligned with donor requirements and CFNZ strategy.

You will manage grants across the full project cycle, design adaptive programmes with local partners, build strategic partnerships, and oversee reporting, budgeting and MERL inputs, including travel to Kiribati where required.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years' experience managing international development and/or humanitarian programmes.
• Ability to independently manage multiple institutional grants across the full project cycle.
• Strong programme design and adaptive management skills (workplans, budgets, results frameworks).
• Excellent writing skills for funding proposals and donor reports.
• Experience partnering with local organisations to strengthen local ownership.
• Willingness to travel regularly to Kiribati.

Responsibilities

• Oversee CFNZ Kiribati portfolio across design, contracting, implementation and close-out.
• Manage budgets, forecasts, contracts, procurement, risks, and reporting deadlines.
• Travel to Kiribati and coordinate with CFK between visits.
• Design and adapt programmes based on community priorities and Kiribati context.
• Support CFK to strengthen systems, staff capability and sustainability.
• Lead high-quality funding proposals from concept to submission.
• Maintain board and donor reporting with MERL inputs.
• Strengthen monitoring, learning and adaptive management with MERL teams.
• Monitor financial position of grants and overall portfolio.
• Collaborate with CFK and CFNZ Finance on budgeting and cash flow.
• Promote safeguarding culture and compliance with policies.
