Job description

About Us

Southern Cross Health Insurance is shaping a healthier Aotearoa New Zealand. Our purpose is simple: empowering our members to live well for longer. We're here to give peace of mind through timely access to quality care, inspire healthier living, and lead positive change across the health system. As a New Zealand-owned, member-based organisation, we're building a future where wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do -- delivering exceptional value for our members and creating an environment where our people thrive.

Now is an exciting time to join us. You'll be part of a high-performing, values-driven team where people are at the heart of everything we do -- and in return for your talent, you'll have the opportunity to grow, make an impact, and be proud of the difference your work makes.

About The Role

We are seeking an accomplished Key Account Manager to lead a portfolio of New Zealand’s largest and most strategically important business customers.

In this highly visible role, you’ll partner with senior decision makers including CEO’s, CFO’s, Chief People Officers, HR Directors, Remuneration Managers and Health & Safety Executives, to understand their business priorities and deliver solutions that strengthen employee health, wellbeing and engagement.

Through strategic account leadership, you’ll drive growth, retention and enduring partnerships that help organisations create healthier, more engaged workforces where people feel valued because their employer invests in their wellbeing.

As a senior member of our Business Engagement team, you will:

  • Manage a portfolio of large, complex, multi-million dollar corporate and enterprise accounts.
  • Develop and execute strategic account plans that drive retention, growth and long-term customer value.
  • Build trusted, multi-level relationships with senior leaders and decision-makers across customer organisations.
  • Lead high-value commercial discussions with executive stakeholders, negotiating commercial renewals, leading business reviews and influencing strategic initiatives, while balancing customer outcomes with long-term commercial sustainability.
  • Act as a strategic partner to customers, helping them maximise the value and impact of their investment in employee health and wellbeing.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to deliver exceptional customer experiences and drive engagement initiatives.
  • Identify, nurture and win new business opportunities through relationship-led sales activities, compelling proposals, and successful tender responses.
About You

To succeed in this role, you'll bring:

  • A demonstrated ability of managing large, strategically important Enterprise and Key Accounts within a complex B2B environment.
  • A proven track record of developing and maintaining strategic influential relationships with senior executives and key stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial acumen with demonstrated success negotiating, influencing and delivering outcomes at C-suite and senior leadership level.
  • Expertise in managing complex B2B customer portfolios, and achieving retention, growth and long-term partnership outcomes.
  • A genuine customer and partnership mindset, with the ability to understand customer priorities, challenge thinking constructively and create solutions that deliver meaningful value for both the customer and Southern Cross.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence and credibility to engage and influence senior decision-makers.
  • Strategic thinking, sound judgement, adaptability and a highly collaborative approach to working across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Experience within health and wellbeing, employee benefits, health insurance or financial services will be highly regarded.
Our values, who we are and what’s important to us
Ngākau nui. Āhurutanga. Tikanga.

Join a team that's always there, always real, always true. If you thrive in a purpose-driven, diverse and supportive culture, we think you’ll love working with us.

What We Offer You
  • Five days of wellbeing leave per year (pro-rated for part-timers)
  • Health insurance for you and your immediate whānau
  • Life insurance cover and discounts on pet and travel insurance
  • Extra parental leave benefits and financial wellbeing support
  • Ability to participate in our workplace wellbeing programme

But that's not all. If you need more time to support your whānau, we offer work-life balance, a hybrid environment and each year you have a volunteer day to spend with your team contributing to a cause or community of your choice.

This role is Wellington-based, and while we appreciate interest from candidates in other locations, we're unfortunately not able to consider remote options for this position.

We are proud to have taken the Pride Pledge, reflecting our commitment to inclusion and belonging. We also facilitate an active, employee‑led Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Forum, which includes our Rainbow Network, Māori Network, Pasifika Collective, and Neurodiversity and Whānau Support networks.
