Outdoor instructor or teacher with outdoor qualifications

Position: Full-time, permanent

Location: Whakatāne – Bay of Plenty

St Cuthbert’s College has been educating and inspiring young women for over a century. At the heart of this is Kahunui, our residential outdoor centre, where every Y10 student spends a transformative month in the Bay of Plenty, combining outdoor adventure with life skills education.

We are seeking a passionate outdoor instructor or teacher with outdoor qualifications and/or pastoral care experience to join our dedicated team. You will work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and College leaders to deliver a student-centred programme that develops resilience, self-confidence, and environmental awareness.

Responsibilities
  • Leading outdoor activities including tramping, sea kayaking, mountain biking, and overnight camps
  • Preparing students for excursions and maintaining gear
  • Supporting Environmental and Hauora programmes
  • Supervision and house tutor duties during intake periods
Qualifications / You’ll bring
  • A positive, can-do attitude and ability to embody St Cuthbert’s “By Love Serve” motto
  • Experience mentoring adolescents and guiding their growth
  • Ability to facilitate restorative conversations with students
  • Strong pastoral care skills to support student wellbeing
  • A full NZ driver licence (or valid overseas equivalent)
  • Flexibility, initiative, and professionalism in both independent and team settings
  • Preferably, outdoor qualifications or secondary education experience (sea kayaking/tramping desirable)
  • Strong health, safety, and wellbeing knowledge
  • On-site accommodation including power, Wi-Fi, and heating
