Job summary

Scarlatti is seeking a data and modelling analyst intern to join our dynamic team in Auckland or Hamilton. The role offers opportunities to drive research projects and contribute to client work, while learning to analyse and interpret data.

You will work with Scarlatti to develop dashboards and reports, gaining hands-on experience with datasets and impact modelling. A strong academic record and excellent written English are desired.

Qualifications

  • Strong academic record in a relevant tertiary field (e.g. maths, data science, CS, stats, physics, economics).
  • In later years of university (penultimate or ultimate year).
  • Zero to two years’ work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Drive a research project aligned with current Scarlatti work.
  • Contribute to client projects across industries and disciplines.
  • Work closely with Scarlatti team members (research managers, analysts, associates).
  • Learn how to analyse, evaluate and interpret research data.
  • Learn to produce engaging reports (written, dashboards, infographics, presentations).
  • Support project management activities.
  • Contribute to the Scarlatti team and culture.

We are looking for a data and modelling analyst intern to join our dynamic and innovative team in Auckland or Hamilton. We take pride in our work, driving practice change through research, evaluation and analytics.

About the role

All interns are expected to:

  • Drive a research project (selected from our current projects) that best fits your skills and interests.
  • Contribute to client projects that span a variety of industries and disciplines.
  • Work closely with other members of the Scarlatti team (research managers, analysts, and research associates)
  • Learn how to analyse, evaluate and interpret research data.
  • Learn how to produce engaging reports (written, dashboards, infographics, presentations, etc.)
  • Support project management activities.
  • Contribute to the Scarlatti team and culture.

Depending on experience, data and modelling analyst interns may also:

  • Analyse, evaluate and interpret research data; build models; and extract insights from this work to drive outcomes for our clients.
  • Synthesize a range of datasets generated from the StatsNZ Integrated Data Infrastructure (IDI).
  • Develop software tools to make models and data available to end-users
About you

You will have/be:

  • A strong academic record in a tertiary qualification (e.g. maths, data science, computer science, statistics, physics, economics or another area where you have developed effective research and communication skills)
  • In later years of university studies (penultimate or ultimate year)
  • Zero to two years’ work experience.
  • An ability to combine technical skills, such as data analysis and/or modelling with critical thinking, problem solving and creativity.
  • Good communication skills, including excellent written English
  • The ability to respond well to ambiguity, multiple deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • A passion for detail.
  • An appetite to learn, try new things and help team members.
  • The right to work in New Zealand.
